Is Shane Warne Behind The Pietersen v England Fiasco?

by | 9th, January 2009

Rumours abound that the reason KP walked was because he wanted old Hampshire buddy Shane Warne to take over from the now-deposed Peter Moores as head coach of England. The ECB were never going to go for that.

Pietersen respects Warne more than anyone in cricket, and it’s no surprise that he gravitated towards the legendary Aussie twirler – they share an intense will to win that shames the likes of some England internationals (stand up, Steve Harmison).

It would not come as a any kind of shock if KP did make Warne an offer about the England job, even if it would take a hell of a lot of cash to persuade the Australian to lead England against his own country in the Ashes.

Indeed, Warned admitted this week: “The only way I’d coach England is through a financial deal so outrageous it would be impossible to refuse.”

Nice to know what motivates you, Warney.
