James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan was 57 at the time of the Charge, hardly in the first flush of youth. He and Lord (Sleeves) Raglan were called away from their successful knitwear business to serve their country in time of need when Charles Bingham, the Earl of Lucan went missing.
