MANY Americans would consider it a crime for the Super Bowl – the most-watched sporting event in the States, by a long way – to be held anywhere other than in their own country. But news has reached the Anorak sports desk, via Auntie Beeb, that it could be coming to Olde Londontown…
The NFL has had “substantive talks” with officials in London about holding the Super Bowl in the English capital, according to NFL Events Vice-President Frank Supovitz.
“The city has all the facilities needed, and in great quantity. We have had very substantive conversations with the city of London. We’ve got to the point of exploring the bid document,” Supovitz said, ahead of this weekend’s NFL Draft.
Perhaps by way of thanks, Boris Johnson, or whoever, could offer to give a future Carling Cup Final to Los Angeles or New York. Yeah, that could work.

In retrospect let them come over and I’ll even buy a ticket to fly over to stand at Heathrow Airport and watch the reactions when our fans literally stumble off the airplanes after a 5 hour flight three sheets to the wind; then I can read the London newspapers reporting on the damages done to the hotel rooms as they do their usual partying staying 4 - 6 to a room; of course, I presume any police that are not locked up for excessive force after the infamous G-20 will be on standby to handle the mob celebrating or fighting over which ever team wins when the game is over!

…why?? oh, apart from the revenue of course….. but are there really that many American footie fans over here, enough to register a decent noise somewhere like Wembley (I am presuming this is the Wembley management in their dogged pursuit of getting money back on the cost of the stadium….?)

Anorak - you mean ‘the’ London that is in the UK? NFL officials are talking about actually having one of OUR Super Bowls over there, which rabid football fans would sell their own mothers for a ticket to when they are played.
I really don’t see that happening, an ordinary season game over there okay; but OUR Super Bowl? Even I’ll join the crowds demonstrating against that.
