Times Loses 87% Online Readers With Paywall

ON the plus side around 100,000 people have paid to go behind the Times and Sunday Times’ online paywalls. Of those, around 50,000 are monthly subscribers -the rest are more casual visitors.

If you take out a subscribtion to the print verison you get a onlione pass chucked in. The figures include those sing-ups.

So. Impressive?

Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of Rupert Murdoch’s News International, explains:

“We are very pleased by the response to our new digital services. These figures very clearly show that large numbers of people are willing to pay for quality journalism in digital formats.”

Make of that what you will. It remains to be seen how many are paying for the News of The World, the company’s Sunday tabloid, whso stella scoops can be seen here.
