Frog struck down by lightning Hammy frog sacrifices life to save Australian familyWHEN a frog dies, Australia reacts. Belinda Brustolin and her family had a lucky escape. A lightning bolt hit an electricity pole a few yards from their their home in Girraween. The power went out. She tells the Northern Territory News:

‘It was like nature’s version of Territory Day. There was a thunder clap, a bright flash and then the power went out. It was a good storm.

Not for everyone, it wasn’t. A green tree frog hiding in a power box was fried. He was a bonza frog. He died in typically dramatic style, using the moment of his death to reprise his role as Hamlet in the local am-dram society’s 2008 production…
