INDIA  has reinstated a  law that criminalises homosexuality. Gay sex can land you in prison for 10 years.

India’s Supreme Court overruled a 2009 order which had removed the ban on gay sex. That had undone an 1860 British law. But the Supreme Court ruled that the ancient law which prohibits “carnal sex against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal” stands.

What the order of nature is, we can’t be certain. But the Indian know it all, so the law is sound.

The law was introduced under the auspices of Earl Canning, then Viceroy of India. He has been governor-general of India during the Indian Mutiny of 1857. He thought this law a good idea:

377. Unnatural offences

Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Explanation: Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offense described in this section

Meanwhile, before the British arrived:

Maybe we should invade them once more and teach them the new ways..?
