Arsenal Transfer balls: 140,000 reasons for Theo Walcott to love Chelsea and Liverpool

Transfer Balls: the Times says Chelsea are ready to make a move for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.

Matt Hughes says Walcott, 26, wants to stay at Arsenal. But at the end of this season Walcott’s current contract will have just one year to run.

There is no guantratee Arsenal and Walcott will agree on a new contract. So. He could be off.

But Arsene Wenger says there has been progress:

“The first contacts have been established with the embassy! We will see how that progresses politically. Walcott was difficult to convince (last time) and that’s why it took us much time.”

Walcott signed his current deal with just six months to run on his old contract.

“We started very early with him but it was slow progress. He is very quick on the pitch but off the pitch not always. I want him to stay and be a regular player and fight for his place…”

Would Walcott find life easier under Chelsea? No. But he could earn a lot more money.

And money is the key part of Hughes’ story – he says Walcott is not asking for an increase on his £90,000-a-week pay. That news should help Walcott keep Arsenal fans on his side. No fans like to hear their team’s players already earning a fortune demanding more money. It makes the player look greedy and out of touch with most of the fans.

But the Daily Mail telling its readers that Walcott does want more cash:

Theo Walcott wants significant increase on current £90,000-per-week deal if Gunners winger is to sign new deal

Sami Mokbel says Walcott’s “wage demands could lead to another long drawn out contract saga”.

How much does Walcott want? The Mail knows:

Walcott will be hoping to earn a similar amount to star man Alexis Sanchez on £140,000-per-week

Mokbel then adds:

Liverpool and Manchester City will be monitoring Walcott’s situation closely ahead of a potential summer move.

So. That’s Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all in for Walcott.

And what does Walcott say? Well, thanks to twitter, we know:
