Elderly white woman arrested for slapping idiot police officer who wrongly called at her home
Equal opportunities police stupidity in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where Phyllis Stankiewicz, 88, has been arrested for assaulting officers in her own home.
The story bwgan when the keystone cops were dispatched to 57 Wilson St. There were reports of someone playing havok with a baseball bat. When Stankiewicz came to the door, police said, she was carrying a knife. It was at the police officer’s “waist level”. Stankiewicz appeared “angry and confused”. She yelled: “There’s no crime here! Get out of my house!”
And she was right. The police had arrived at the wrong address. The call was for 57 Memorial Drive,
Still, determined not to waste their time, the coppers grabbed the knife. When Stankiewicz allegedly tried to push her way past police, they blocked her path and ordered her to “calm down”. Trapped and confronted by armed officers in her own home, the innocent Stankiewicz was warned not to put her hands on the officers. She, allegedly, accepted the invitation and slapped one of them on the left side of his face.
That triggered her arrest. Police put 88-year-old Stankiewicz on the ground to cuff her.
Stankiewicz was sent before the Beak at Central Berkshire District Court, where she pleaded not guilty to one count of assault and battery on a police officer. She is scheduled to attend a pre-trial hearing for Aug. 21.
What looks like crass and violent stupidity by police represents a step in the right direction. But there are strides still to be made in police attitudes to equality, and we trust that next time cops will treat the innocent Mrs Stankiewicz as they would a young black man and shoot her in the throat.
