Polar Bare: New York Strippers Combat Climate Change By Playing Dead And Eating Balloons

PA 15258412 Polar Bare: New York Strippers Combat Climate Change By Playing Dead And Eating Balloons

WHAT are you doing to combat climate change? Nothing? Separating your rubbish into lots of plastic bins? Dressing as a fur-shedding polar bear. Sarah Laskow spots New Yorker Una Aya Osato, who joined Brown Girls Burlesque. Says her sister Michi, who also works with the troupe: “These are big big questions. And sometimes for such big questions, we need big mediums.”

So. PolarBare.

But as he begins going hunting, he’s uncomfortably hot, and he’s distracted by that. He realizes he can take off a layer of fur, so he begins stripping. He goes back to hunting, but he’s so continually distracted. He keeps stripping because it’s so hot. He starts to get feverish chills, and has to keep stripping down and stripping down to pasties.

He eventually catches a fish, but it’s toxic. And he eats it and dies.

An Inconvenient Truth about drowned polar bears

USED to seeing press photographs of seemingly stricken polar bears sat on tiny cubes of ice, it’s heartening to read that the symbol of global warming is doing fine.

In the Chaunsky district of Chukotka, Russia, a woman decided to feed one poly on chicken legs. She tossed them at the bear. The bear tossed her, grabbing the woman and dragging her to the tundra.

Policeman Sergei Terekhov heard the screams. The took hold of his gun and killed the beast.

Still, sad news for some. After all, polar bears are dying out, aren’t they? Al Gore told us so. In his film An Inconvenient Truth, Gore showed us this:

Polar Bear Attacks Woman In Russia: Video

IN this video a polar bear attacks a woman in Russia. Once polies were the stars of the global warming movement. No day was complete with seeing a photo of a polar beat sat on a small chunk ice to illustrate that the wold’s ice reserves were melting (under hot polar bears). In the 1970s, news was all about trying to get panda bears to mate. Then polar bears took over. But has something shifted. Polar bears are no all that endangered. They are now the bear that hurts humans. The world needs anew bear to love. Koalas, readers. You can always trust a koala.

Dr Charles Monnett is an Alaskan wildlife biologist working at the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement. Dr Monnett hit the news cycle when he spotted four polar bear bodies floating in the sea miles from land.

His sighting helped turn polar bears into this century’s panda bears. Polars were in. Pandas, who had hogged the limelight in the 1970s and 1980s with their prudiush attitudes to sex, could retire.

Polar Bear Made From Ice Proves Global Warming Is Natural

sydney bear Polar Bear Made From Ice Proves Global Warming Is NaturalPOLAR Bear Watch: Anorak’s occassional look at polar bears being used to advertsie global warming in the media. Today we see the frozen bear ice sculpture of Sydney – the one that cost local taxpayers $10,000 to create from water and wind-powered freezers.

A ten tonne polar bear camping out at Sydney’s majestic Circular Quay isn’t likely to survive for more than a day or two. The bear, made of solid ice, will slowly melt into a great puddle of water under Sydney’s 20°C winter sun, and sculptor Mark Coreth is just fine with that.

In fact, he hopes this slow and painful “death” will remind people of the plight of the real thing …

“Sitting in the sun, it’s going to melt that bear, that’s the natural warming of the planet, as is happening,” he said.

Polar Bears Can Hear Mother Nature’s Screams

POLAR Bear Watch: Anorak’s look at polar bears in the news…

IN California, scientists are testing the hearing of polar bears “to try to find out whether the noises associated with melting Arctic ice could affect their ability to survive”.

In the wild, polar bears live in one of the quietest places on Earth. For much of the time, the Arctic is a bitterly cold, silent world.

But global warming is changing that. Ice, which is crucial to the bears’ survival, is disappearing and people are moving in.

“We’re expecting industrial activity, shipping, recreation, all of those human activities to increase in the Arctic,” says Dr Ann Bowles, a senior research scientist at Hubbs-Seaworld Research Institute in San Diego.

“We’re going to be bringing noise and activity much closer to these guys. What we’re trying to do is help to protect the bears during this period of transition,” she says.

KNUT, the German polar bear the Guardian calls an “activist” for global warming, is alive. But his former keeper is not. Thomas Doerflein has died.

THE INDEPENDENT reports: “Love story: Knut mourns his keeper”. Or as the experts put it:

Berlin Zoo yesterday categorically ruled out suggestions that Knut would experience feelings of loss as a result of his keeper’s passing. “It won’t be a problem for him,” said Klaus Lüdcke, a Berlin zoologist, “Knut has been looked after by a whole team – and for him the most important person is the one who brings the food.”

And Doerflein: “He said that he could wish the bear no better first-birthday present than permanent separation.”

Polar Bear Watch: Frightened Out Of Its Skin

POLAR Bear Watch: Anorak’s look at polar bears in the news

A polar bear caused panic in a park filled with children in northern Canada Wednesday before it was shot and killed, reports reaching here said.

The incident happened at Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Parklocated in the suburbs of Iqaluit, capital city of the Nunavat Territory. About 37 kids from a nearby school were having a picnic there, besides other visitors.

Polar bears are endangered:

Conservation officer Johnny Nowdlak skinned the polar bear and doled out the skin and meat to nearby residents. He estimated that it was male, about 10 years old. It appeared to be healthy and was likely looking for food in the park, he said.

How The Polar Bear Saved The World

polar bear watch How The Polar Bear Saved The WorldPOLAR Bear Watch: Anorak’s look at polar bears in the news

WHEN Anorak spotted the polar bear appearing with increasing regularity in the media, we wondered if it was the manifestation of a plot to undo pandas, once the mainstay of deprived bears?

But now the truth is out: The polar bear is “An Animal to Save the World”:

Lawyers at the Center for Biological Diversity spent years looking for “an animal to save the world.” Their criteria: A charismatic animal dependent upon arctic ice habitat threatened by global warming that could be listed under the Endangered Species Act.

The Kittlitz’s murrelet didn’t cut it, nor did an arctic spider or Carribean coral species. The polar bear, however, is another story. This year the polar bear joined the nearly 2,000 species listed as threatened or endangered under the ESA, and instantly became the new mascot for global warming policy.
