I’ve just looked on their website and it seems KFC only ended the trials at a few branches because of lack of demand:

Despite positive feedback, a few stores haven’t met our forecasts, so the following 5 restaurants will be ending their halal trial on the 19th July 2010 (No longer serving halal products)
