Cat Among The Hawks

‘OF all the allegations levelled against Yusuf Islam, no mention is made of his involvement with Boyzone, the Irish boyband who covered his song Father And Son.

‘I pray for your forgiveness – Boyzone was a grave error of judgement’

All we hear in the Times is how the man once known as singer Cat Stevens and before that as Dmitri Georgiou is suspected of having links with the Hamas terror group.

This he denies, but his claims of innocence did nothing to prevent the Americans from diverting the plane he was travelling from London to Washington on.

Instead of landing in the seat of power, Stevens and his fellow passengers touched down 600 miles away in Maine, where he was escorted off the aircraft by FBI agents.

He was then deported back to London.

But the story gets more interesting when we hear, via the Independent, that also on board the Boeing 747 were members of the rock band Marillion.

By some quirk of fate, they were allowed to enter the United States.

Of course, the security situation being what it is, they may not be allowed back home. Their records may even be confiscated and banned from ever being played.

This would be awful. But if it helps make the world a safer place, we will just have to learn to live with it.

And if the same fate befalls Boyzone, so be it…’
