‘SPACE – the final reality show frontier. And now it is to be conquered.

As the Times reports (“’Reality’ show stars will be taken for one galactic ride”), plans are afoot to blast a galaxy of our brightest stars into space.

Thrill as Rebecca Loos tosses off a Martian. Delight as Jade Goody feast on space kebabs. Swoon as Peter Andre shows that his career can defy gravity for a third time.

But it’s not real. It’s a hoax. As the paper explains, the four contestants, selected from nine hopefuls, preparing for a five-day orbit of Earth at the “Space Tourism Agency of Russia” are going to remain firmly on terra firma.

(The Agency is in Britain, and contestants will arrive in ‘Russia’ having flown around in circles over the UK at nighttime.)

The shuttle is the same as the Hollywood prop used in the film Space Cowboys. The sounds of blast off have been created by a “Hollywood specialist”. A screen will create an illusion of looking down on Earth from space.

And the space cadets will not experience weightlessness because they will in be “near space”.

With their heads in the clouds…’
