A Perfect Match

You’d think sportsmen and women compete for enough awards already, what with the various cups, plates and trophies up for grabs, but if a sponsor demands it they can always use another one. So all hail the seventh annual Laureus World Sports Awards. Hurrah!

All the big players were there – Teri Hatcher (she rides horses), Cuba Gooding Jr (he pretended to be an American football player in a movie), Morgan Freeman, CSI Miami star Adam Rodriguez, pop band Jamiroquai, Spanish flamenco dancer Joaquin Cortés, Argentinian supermodel Valeria Mazza and Spanish actress Elsa Pataky. Enough people for a four-a-side game of darts.

And Roger Federer, the tennis player and would-be super model, was there. He was named World Sportsman of the Year.

“It’s a very proud moment for me and a very emotional moment,” said Roger as he collected his gold-coloured prize. “Winning it for the second time in a row is something special.”

Indeed it is. And it might just be that he will never top it. Roger should seriously think about quitting why he is at the pinnacle of the game.

After you’ve won the Laureus, the rest is just details…
