The FA hypocrites are the biggest fans of Wonga

IS the Football Association the most craven outfit in the country? The General Secretary of the FA, Alex Horne, reacted to news that Newcastle FC had signed a deal with short-term loan company Wonga by opining:

“The Football Supporters’ Federation of Britain told us in no uncertain terms it’s not appropriate, David Miliband (the Sunderland non-executive vice-president) has told us he does not think it is appropriate. We are talking to the leagues on Friday about it. If you consider it as in the category of things that are inappropriate for children like gambling and alcohol, it feels like it is in that category to me.”

Ah, the lofty FA. Cop a load of its partners that keep its coffers fat:

The England Team
The country’s national teams are sponsored by:

Lead Partner – Vauxhall
Supporters: Umbro and Mars
Suppliers: Carlsberg, Lucozade, Nivea and Marks and Spencer

The FA Cup
Lead Partner – Budweiser
Supporters: Umbro

Development Areas
Men’s Football Partner – Carlsberg
This includes the following 3 competitions:

The FA Carlsberg Vase
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
The FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup
Small-sided Football Partner – Umbro
Community Partner – McDonald’s
Small-sided Football Partner – Umbro
Adult Football Partner – Mars

FA Skills Partner – Tesco

And in other news:

The FA has added a new name to its sponsorship roster, with William Hill – Europe’s leading gaming and sports betting business – becoming an Official Supporter to both England and The FA Cup.

The FA’s tosspots don’t like Wonga – they love wonga.

PS – The Premier League has no betting partner and is not sponsored by a booze company.
