Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Jail And Drugs, Michaela Walczuch Accused And The Others
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – MUM FACES TEN YEARS IN JAIL. Now parents could be charged with abandoning their children”
Abandoning - to go for some tapas down the road?
Says lawyer Jose Olimpio: “The fact the McCanns were made arguidos means that there are justified suspicions against them of committing a crime.” But there is no proof they have…
And: “Mr Olimpio claimed the Portuguese penal code states that placing a person’s life in danger by abandoning them is punishable with a jail sentence of between one and five years. But the sentence rises to between three and 10 years if the victim is a child and the crime is committed by a parent or guardian”
Says Clarence Mitchell (not a lawyer): “They have committed no offence under Portuguese, British or any country’s laws”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “NO ALIBI - EXCLUSIVE Murat lover ‘was not at church as she claimed’”
“An alibi by Robert Murat’s lover for the night Madeleine McCann vanished is a LIE, it was claimed yesterday”
It’s “German born” Michaela Walczuch, who “claims” she was at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting four miles away when the four-year-old was snatched.
But church elder Brother Teofilo Castela says: “She was thrown out of the church more than a year ago and doesn’t attend. There was some problem with the rules and she was cast aside. It was before this year. I haven’t been interviewed by police and the police haven’t been here”
Murat’s lawyer Francisco Pagarate says: “Michaela says she was at the Jehovah Witnesses in Lagos on May 3. She remembers being there”
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE: THE FALSE ALIBI – Suspect’s girl accused over Jehovah claim”
A member of the religious organisation says Michaela Walczuch, was thrown out for “breaking the laws of the Bible” months before Madeleine McCann went missing
Oh? The laws of the bible – there are many. But the Sun boils things down:
“It is not clear which rules Michaela has broken. But the religion’s strict moral code considers adultery and premarital sex to be sins. Michaela started dating Murat almost two years ago, while she was still married to Luis Antonio, 37”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE DRUG TEST SHOCK”
“GP” Kate McCann took a drugs test after she was named a suspect in her daughter’s disappearance
She did it to “fight police claims that she was ‘mentally unstable’’ and could have been on anti-depressants”. Her two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie were also tested. All the tests proved negative. So say the lawyers working for the McCanns
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine: Now Murat’s girlfriend’s alibi falls apart”
Michael Walczuch is a “German-born mother-of-one”
“The Jehovah’s Witnesses follow what they believe is a ‘purer’ form of Christianity, based on the First Century Church. The ultimate sanction on those who break the rules is excommunication, known as disfellowship”
Such are the facts of the case…
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “No peace for McCanns”
“A senior policeman says they created ‘a monster of information they lost control of’. Meanwhile, the plods who failed to take control of the crime scene on the night Madeleine disappeared and who bungled every step of the investigation that followed, are blameless, obviously”
The Telegraph Liz Hunt fails to spot that Goncarlo Amaral was demoted and any number of tabloid stories on “bungling” Portuguese cops
“Without a trace” - The paper looks at other British children who have one missing abroad “not the story of Madeleine McCann”
“When Katrice Lee vanished in Germany in 1981 there was no blanket media coverage, no poster campaign, hardly even a mention on the national news. And today, 26 years later, her family still have no idea what happened to her”
Christmas Book: Crime fiction” - However fascinated we are by the real-life mysteries of Diana, Princess of Wales or Madeleine McCann, and even as we devour the newspapers with what Margery Allingham saw as “the bright ghoul’s eyes of the calamity fancier”, we return to crime novels because they provide us with the satisfaction of a solution”
Expect lots of books on Madeleine McCann; and Diana
THE TIMES: “Casey Affleck, the brother in arms - Not just Ben’s kid brother – Casey Affleck shows he’s a serious contender in a fine new western”
“His roots seem important to Affleck, and he’ll next be seen playing the lead in the older Affleck’s directing debut Gone Baby Gone, a dark child-abduction drama set in Boston, where the pair grew up. However, in the wake of the Madeleine McCann case, this adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 1998 novel was withdrawn from this year’s Times/bfi London Film Festival because of its sensitive subject matter, and may never be released in the UK”
Because viewers might confuse a work of Hollywood fiction with real life…
THE GUARDIAN: “Kate McCann ‘agreed to drug tests’”
Says Edward Smethurst: “There were various stories circulating that Kate might somehow be unstable and might be depressed and whatever, but the tests demonstrated that the kind of drugs she might be on did not show up”
CAMDEN NEW JOURNAL: “Author says Freud slipped up in Oedipus ‘obsession’”
“One of Britain’s most popular authors, Salley Vickers, will speak…about her influences, including the hysteria surrounding the Madeleine McCann case, and the work of Clement Freud”
An author making headline on the McCann case… The Oedipus complex and Madeleine McCann… Booker prize winner Anne Enright… Look at me!
Says Ms Vickers: “There’s quite a strong body of opinion in Britain that would have really liked the McCanns to have murdered their own child. They would have been quite excited by it”
The news and speculation so far

No Ann,(730) I saw the reconstruction on the television, based on what the mccans and friends said. Gerry went up the street that runs long side the apartment from the tapas bar. Then he went through the gate and into the back entrance of the apartment. Then he went a little back down the poorly lit side street where met his tennis partner. Jane then came up same road , passed Gerry and saw the man going across the top of this road. The road fronting the apartment. This was a main street and brightly lit. he must have been a cool customer to walk a few feet from the child’s dad, so why didnt he go the other way. And wasn’t the white van eliminated long ago?

689- Peter O.
I assume you are Kris under another name? Apologies if not.
Despite your constant harping on about people raising the ‘neglect’ issue yet again, you are in fact raising it yourself, though you do it in such a way as to attempt to mitigate the McCann’s alleged behaviour in the grand scale of the abuses that go on around us every day in the world.
You said: -
“I have seen real cases of abuse, and neglect, and so when you sit here and tell me that the McCanns should be prosecuted for “neglect” of Madeleine and her siblings because they foolishly chose to have some wine and tapas at a restaurant across the swimming pool, just like all the other vacationing parents did, well, that makes me angry, Peter.”
I did not, and in fact have never said, that the McCann’s should be prosecuted for neglect, you are raising it again yourself. If in the fullness of time the Portuguese authorities decide to pursue such a charge then so be it. I’m in quite a significant minority on this forum because I do not believe that the McCann’s should be pursued by a third party on child neglect charges, whilst there is still an ongoing criminal investigation.
In all probability Madeleine is dead. Now, I don’t know how being dead rates as opposed to “recovering from/living with” the most appalling daily abuse that you have described? If Madeleine isn’t dead, then one can only wonder at her current circumstances and potential suffering.
Whatever Madeleine’s present whereabouts it comes about directly from the circumstances the McCann’s themselves helped create. If there was a third party involved in Madeleine’s disappearance and possible demise, neither you nor I know what, if any, abuses Madeleine may have suffered nor for how long.
You also make a quite incorrect assertion that “all the other vacationing parents” did much what the McCann’s did. This is one of the worst lies perpetuated by those who seek to excuse the McCann’s behaviour. I have to admit that I have been truly shocked by the number of people who do appear to claim this is “normal” behaviour, much more than I could ever have imagined. That said the vast majority of people would never leave young children unattended for any period of time.
It is these factors, linked to the McCann’s inability to show any real regret for their actions and the part it played in creating the environment which led to Madeleine’s alleged abduction that unsurprisingly causes anger amongst others.
There is a whole world of difference between endlessly debating the “Neglect” issue, which is after all a “legal” definition and seeking via whatever means to write off the McCann’s at best “lax” childcare arrangements because worse things happen in the world.
You have chosen in a public forum to post details of the most appalling abuses that you say you have direct experiences of. Please do not assume that because I do not choose to share my life experiences in a similar manner that I do not therefore have experiences on which to base my opinions.

It is not so important that the kids choose to be with the mother for whatever reason. This is not and “end” result, for they are but teenagers — the “end” result will be that they will always feel in their bones what you did for them in a simple, honest and warm way. But by way of advice, I’d say if you feel lonely (or miss them) and want to hang around them sometimes, you should let them know. Nothing wrong with letting people know when one feels too alone.
The McCanns have no concept of this kind of ordinary love for children. Children for them are objects, to be used (and abused), and to be put away when not in use.

All details of your rant are taken and noted but the McCanns left three vulnerable children under 3 alone in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country whilst they went out to enjoy themselves, which was very selfish to say the least. According to what THEY have said they were variously checking every five minutes or every hour, according to what THEY say the children were not sedated but the little ones didn’t wake up AT ALL whilst the parents, friends et al were screaming around the place, turning it upside down and searching for Madeleine and then the Police actually carried these twins out like “sacks of flour” because they were “sleeping” so heavily ….give me a break !!!! This is as much neglect, abuse or whatever as any physical rapings and beatings that you relate but what is worse about this is that it is so subtle and perpetrated by …ahem…upper class professional people and not by weirdos you quote who seem to have come from some sort of “Deliverance” scenario. You did see “Deliverance” I expect ?

Well I don’t know what perspective you are coming from but people who change their stories every five minutes, who tell blatant lies about where they were and when, and then can be easily disproved , the Police who decided on one thing then had to be replaced by someone a little less biased, the parents who are gob-smackingly callous and unemotional about something so devastating as the disappearance of their child …I mean…would YOU go jogging or playing tennis the next day ??????? Come ON Dot these people are all beyond weird, just go back over the news casts never mind the posts on here, just re-read what they have all done and said and how they have behaved, like Maria Walchzuk saying she was at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting and then they said oh no she wasn’t !! because she is banned from their faith !! why did she say that then ? is that not a tad weird and suspicious ???? Watch the Youtube clips of Kate and Gerry in which Gerry is baltantly lying about sedating the kids and Kate shows about as much emotion over losing her chikld as she woudl over losing “a hankie” I believe it was that someone posted. ” Click and she was gone …” she said….Think before you criticise in future please, these are all bloody wieirdos ……………

while i can understand your anger i feel you have missed the point.
the neglect by the McCanns of their children has resulted in the loss of one of them.
just because they play tennis go jogging and live in a very expensive house does not alter the fact that due to their neglect a child is missing and presumed dead.
where do you draw the line. i agree that there are horrible sadistic parents out there who abuse children but the bottom line is the individual child and i will never ever allow social status as an excuse .
neglect is neglect
a dead child is a dead child
and that dead child is still dead it makes no difference if the family are crack heads or wealthy it is still a dead child
November 26th, 2007 at 4:53 am
689- Peter O. On the contrary.
I do not post to inflame opinions. I post because — yes, Peter, it’s true– there are opinions out there other than yours! There are people who (gasp) see things differently).
Peter, you say: “Many of the grand/global events you mention result in countless thousands, and in some cases millions of victims. These victims you usually have little, if indeed any, input into the circumstances that caused their suffering/demise.”
You said this in response to my statement that the McCanns error was not as serious in the big picture, quote, which includes nasty wars, and massive fatalities from wildfires and tsunamis, and thousands dead of starvation the world over, this month and every month, dirty water, rampant consumerism, AIDS, active sexual abuse of small children, etc.”
I think you are missing my point. I’d say that examples such as “active sexual abuse of small children” and “AIDS” and other examples of very real problems/misdeeds in the world, are in fact the result of poor choices by human beings. Heck, the fact that we repeatedly eat beef from cows fed in really horrid, nasty feedyards — fed a diet of soy and corn that breeds E-Coli and a diet that includes the leftover parts of other cows in their soy/corn mix causing Mad cow, for instance — this is also an example of egregious human error/misdeed. Let’s see. My foster son (and I’ve cited this example before) spent 12-13 years living in apartments infested with cat shit, no running water at all, no shower, no flushing toilet, and nothing in the house to eat but some twelve-day-old bread and molded strawberry jam. Maybe some cheese product in a good week after dad sold some dope.
A close friend of mine was repeatedly raped by not only her father, but also her brother (six years her senior) from the age of 9 to the age of 13 when she tried to kill herself and therefore notified the authorities to her situation in the hospital. The social workers gave her BACK to the family after clearing the case, four months later.
I know a girl who is now 16, who had her first child at age 13 having been raped by her cousin, who lived in the same house.
I have seen real cases of abuse, and neglect, and so when you sit here and tell me that the McCanns should be prosecuted for “neglect” of Madeleine and her siblings because they foolishly chose to have some wine and tapas at a restaurant across the swimming pool, just like all the other vacationing parents did, well, that makes me angry, Peter. I think you make a mockery of people like my friend who was raped at age 9, who suffered real neglect and abuse. I think you make a mockery of all the children who are suffering from parents who not only don’t care about them (and perhaps the McCanns didn’t really care about Madeleine, I don’t know) but who truly don’t bother to take care of them. At all. Who send them to school without breakfast every morning. Who don’t put a coat on them on sub-zero days. Who ignore signs of physical and sexual abuse.
I think making too big a deal out of the McCanns poor judgment shows your own lack of knowledge about the real world. There are much, much more serious problems out there. Trying to make a federal case out of this one is absolutely shameful.
November 26th, 2007 at 3:14 am
one thing i thought very odd was about the supposed man with a child seen walking from the apartment. OK so the alleged abductors were supposed to have targeted this child and to have watched the group and seen that the McCanns routinely leave the kids alone. So wouldnt they also know the parents use that road from the Tapas bar to the apartment as its the shortest way? so why would the ‘kidnapper ‘leave the apartment and walk across the top of that road? very risky since Gerry was just a few yards down the road talking to a friend. In fact would it make more sense to walk the other way? or why walk, why not grab her and put her straight into a car? Remember this kidnapping was supposed to be so carefully planned .

Where is “Cracker” when you need him eh??? Do you remember that series some time ago now….but he almost never failed. So Ms McCann is facing a possible child negligence case which could result in 10years imprisonment. About bl**dy time too I say! However we all know that will mean she gets out in a couple of years for good behaviour, but so would the killer…..justice all round me thinks??? As for this twit with his latent DNA stuff…..well , nothing was said about the possible complicity of the parents in that one (ie Ms JoBennet’s sad demise), too little too late. We still have time to get these ones and get the truth out of them, lets use this case and learn from it…..not all parents show their “love ” for their child in the accepted ways…..think about it…..two GP’s, one child with possible escalating mental illness, was it a mercy killing???

You certainly have phobia against catholics. To go that far back in history to plead your case. Get over it. Move on.
Tony Bennet/149?
I doubt the McCanns would confess to the priest anything that might implicate them . They are far more sophisticated than that. (unless you were in the confessional)
What deep seeded anger you must have maligning the young catholic priest. Perhaps you have unresolved issues.

On the basis that the Panorama program that was broadcast was like a government sponsored “Public Service Announcement” of old, or a “Party Political Broadcast”, I dread to think what it may have been like if David Mills had got his way.
One thing that none of these people are honest about is that they do not have the slightest clue what evidence the PJ have against the McCann’s, nor any of their friends. On the basis that all they have to go on is pretty much the same gossip, rumour, innuendo, leak and the very rare “fact” that we on Anorak and folks on other forums re-cycle time and again, they have about zero chance of ever producing a totally unbiased program.
I’d have had more respect for them if some undercover operative had managed to get the Panorama team access to the PJ evidence files. Then they may have been in a position to comment upon the case against the McCann’s. As others have remarked however, investigative journalism is dead on the BBC.
Instead, we were treated to the unchallenged ramblings of two of the main suspects in the case and their seemingly unreliable ‘key witness’.
I really haven’t a clue what the McCann’s may have done in this case, whatever it is though I really do hope they are eventually brought to justice for it and that this Panorama program is exposed for the sycophantic papp that it really is.

These people get an over inflated perception of themselves once they make money and get known in ‘the media’.
He didnt see the bias becasue he was coming from an even further extreme bias. He would no doubt take the view that sticking your kids with a nanny or in a creche is quite a normal thing to do when taking your kids for a holiday. I expect leaving the little ones alone in a room is perfectly fine because children should be seen and not heard. It seems the upper echelons of our media is filled with public schoolboy types!

677 Incredible.
They actually think that panorama was not sufficiently PRO MCANN!!!!
Yet it did not address the fantastical claims that Madeleine was abducted in a sub 5 minute window of opportunity that would have taxed the SAS.
They allowed but did not question the amazing statement by Gerry McCaNN, allegedly a loving father and medic, that he thought the twins might have been sedated and yet did not take immediate steps to have them tested and urgently checked in case of dirty needles or excessive or even dangerous administration of sedatives.
Who exactly is this David Mills? Just because he has made lots of documentaries, does this mean that he is somehow in posession of evidence to which the rest of us do not have access?
I wonder if we dig a little we will find that David Mills is yet another ‘friend of the McCanns’,

I think that most people see strange in the McCanns and their friends. Something isnt right here, something isnt straightforward.
The origin of Madeleine is as unclear as her fate.
Nothing in this case is straightforward - stolen wallets, mysterious messengers, the tenth man, ubiquitious yet invisible abductors, sedated children, unmatched DNA, inconsistant comings and goings, powerful political and financial friends…..
To suggset that anyone who thinks this is almost surreal is living in cloud cuckoo land themselves.
