Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann’s Bags, Soft British Police And Torture
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
THE SUN page 21: “BRIT COPS ‘WILL GO EASY ON McCANNS”
“Police in Portugal fear British cops will go easy on Kate and Gerry McCann if they quiz them about Maddie’s disappearance”
British police could interview the McCanns after Christmas
A Portuguese source says: “British police will ask the questions. It would be different if those involved were directly interrogated by our investigators and were targets of pressure”
Maybe a softer approach would help?
DAILY EXPRESS page 7: “Madeleine: British police should turn screws on parents say the Portuguese”
Is this what the Express wants, to torture the McCanns?
The Portuguese are said to “fear” that during “make-or-break” interviews, British police will “go easy” on the McCanns and the Tapas 7/ Tapas 9/ Sangria 7
Says the Express: “Portuguese law allows suspects and witnesses to be quizzed more confrontationally”
Says McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “This is a matter for Leicestershire police but we have seen nothing that has ever given us any cause for concern. There is nothing to suggest that they will not approach this with anything other than utter professionalism and competency”
Have Leicestershire police ever bungled, bodged or fudged a case? Would the tabloid press care to investigate, as they have the Portuguese police?
“Kate’s face shows terrible strain” – There are “heavy bags” under the Kate McCann eyes. She is “tired”. She is “pale”. Says a “member of the congregation” at the church Kate McCann is attending: “Kate looks as if she is having a really hard time. She looks so desperately sad”
Such are the facts
DAILY STAR page 10: “CRACK MADDIE’S PARENTS – Cops ordered to get tough”
“British detectives ordered to quiz Madeleine McCann’s parents will be told to ‘get tough’ with them”
Can Portuguese police tell Britain’s coppers what to do?
A letter from the Portuguese prosecutor to the Home Office contains over 100 questions and “tells UK officers precisely when and how to ask them”
Notes beside each question instruct “with feeling”, “smile (not with eyes)” and “exit stage right wearing a green felt hat and slapping thigh”
A source in Portugal said: “They will not be holding back. The police and prosecutor believe these interviews are vital in the search for the truth about Madeleine’s disappearance. If they don’t get these interviews right we may never know what happened. It is as simple as that”
If you don’t ask, you don’t get results
Continues the source: “There are certain suspicions among officers that the British police have some sympathy with the McCanns and may be too gentle. It has taken weeks preparing the questions and interview structure, then translating it all into English”
Anyone checked the translations?
“At a certain point we understand the officers will be told to get tough”
Because it’s easy to answer 100 questions while sat in police cell before a bevy of British and Portuguese police…
DAILY MAIL page 12: “Will police be ‘tough enough’ on McCanns?
The Portuguese “letters of appeal” - which detail questions detectives want put to the couple - had been due to be sent this week, but have been held up by red tape. The questions must go before a judge in Portugal before being translated and sent to Home Secretary Jacqui Smith and then on to the police
Says a Policia Judiciaria: “The Portuguese investigators may only sit in on the questioning and make suggestions”
And Kate McCann? “Heavy bags under her eyes suggested the 39-year-old doctor is struggling to settle back into life in Britain”
Such are the facts…
DAILY TELEGRAPH (WEB ONLY): “Madeleine McCann: British police doubted”
“Portuguese police have ‘little faith’ that their British counterparts will be able to solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in new interviews with her parents and their friends”
Says Clarence Mitchell: “As we head towards Christmas, we do not believe that these interviews will take place before then, but if they do that’s fine”
DAILY MIRROR, THE GUARDIAN, THE TIMES and THE INDEPENDENT: No Madeleine news today
Madeleine McCann faction, speculation and sensation

Whilst I think everyone wishes Madeleine would be found alive and healthy, after nearly
eight months missing, do you really believe this is possible.?,
It is probably true that the Portugese Police were not as diligent as they should have been, but
your remarks about their ability now to know what they are doing is unjustified. Remember,
PDL is a small Resort and something like this happening is very rare and like most of us
initially it would seem inconceivable that these middle class parents could be involved in
their daughter”s disappearance, and with all their Friends shouting “Abduction” the Police
thought the same.

I keep reading the news about Maddie Mccann in hope that during this season of miracles, we all may be granted the miracle of seeing Maddie at home with her family. What I find the most distressing is the comments of the Press regarding the attitude of the Portuguese Police, wishing almost in a middle ages way to have Mr. and Mrs. Mccann basically tortured (mentally or maybe physically) to confess they are guilty of Maddie’s disapparence.
How much longer will Portugal continue to have this ancient attitude, and unprofessional way of dealing with challenges?
The Portuguese Police is the one, who needs to confess all their mistakes from day one in this investigation. They wish, they could, force these parents to confess something they did not commit, to at the end, the case will look as it is solved and the Portuguese Police would look so efficient.
All of us Portuguese, who live in foreign countries know too well how backwards the system functions in Portugal. It is scarry to think that a country which looks so calm and peacefull, is in fact the opposite. Afterall maybe we all should agree with Lord Byron who said Portugal was a wonderful place, without the Portuguese. If the only guilt of these parents was to leave their children sleeping in their bedroom, possibly because the place looks so calm that nothing wrong can happen, I ask myself, why is the Portuguese people so upset about it, when thousands of Portuguese parents in Portugal and abroad leave their children alone, to go out for dinners, to the cinema and to work? How can the Portuguese even open their mouths?
It is irritating, embarrassing and very very sad to see that Portugal is still so far away to become the paradise that many people think it is, unfortunatelly for those foreigners who though so and chose to spend their holidays there and now gained a lifelong nightmare.
May G-O-D grant the Mccann family all the strengh and health to continue searching for their little Maddie.

Hope your email is ok now, yes I was there (with you) that night!
I think all or most of us have been attacked at one time or another, in fact it happened to me on my very first post! However that may be the attackers job, ie to scare us off?
Susannah has always been a decent poster but I think she needs to apolojise to Lulu for obvious reasons…ie caught out for what she was accusing her of? That would be fair.

hannasus,
Bountyhunter was threatening me, as he has been right from my first post. It looks like he’s got a problem with me being Dutch. Sorry about that, can’t help it, blame it on my parents.
Next time he threatens me or someone else, I’ll put a complaint at Mods and Admin.
With sometimes almost no news or interesting debates going on, I don’t mind just to chitchat a little bit. Better then watching the telly or misbehaving, imo. And I do like Lulu’s funny/witty remarks. I also like the way Garth knows how to play a few posters. Over and over again they jump into the same trap. Also remember how Inspector G. with his funny remarks often created a better atmosphere? The subject is serious enough, some of us need a little bit of humour to let the steam off.
Everybody is entitled to have their own opinion. This is a free forum and we don’t have to agree on things. Wouldn’t it be sooooooo boring if we were all alike and all thinking the same? I think that testing a statement or a theory is very valuable and better than all running in the same direction as soon as someone suggests something.
And I agree it is sometimes disappointing to see “old news”. On the other hand the poster might not know its “old news”, so may be we could help him/her soon out of his/her dreams?
[as I did e.g. by posting the cached link about the cascaide body]. And sometimes it’s also disappointing to see all of us running arround in circles. And how much I would like to help to find Madeleine and/or the one that harmed that girl, I have to be realistic. We don’t have enough clues, many clues are misinformation and we don’t know how to differ. If the PJ with all his knowledge, men, witnesses, cctv, dna, etc. couldn’t charge anyone until now, whom am I to think I could? btw did you read Murder’s post about the media? And did you ever read Pat Brown profiler about how we absorb information? Very interesting psychological insights about how we are manipulated.
And yes! I was against war on Irak. Even put a candle in front of my window. A pity that didn’t work.

Mods and Admin. If posters can recommend that other posters posts be removed. Can I have a go next . Methinks ‘an observer’ infers too much. Check the posts he copied and check the ones he didn’t bother to copy and you will see who is doing the ‘inferring’

Exactly. We do not know who anybody else is. The only person we actually know is Tony Bennett who has put his reputation on the line in the Madeiline case. Everybody else has a pseudonym. All we know about anyone else is what they choose to tell us…

Quite so. I would, however, like to make it clear that whilst I certainly visited Ikea on Sunday, it was not the Madrid branch….
