Terminal Cancer Patient Wins Bet That He Lives

by | 30th, May 2009

jon-matthewsJON Matthews, from Milton Keynes – and still from Milton Keynes – was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a terminal cancer.

He had months to live. In 2006.

Jon Matthews, of Milton Keynes – still of Milton Keynes – has lived and in so doing won £5,000.

Jon Matthews placed two bets of £100 a time at odds of 50/1 that he would be alive in June 2008 and in June 2009.

If he lives until June 1, 2010, he wins a further £10,000.

Says he:

“I think I’m the first person in the world to bet on my own life. When I was diagnosed I was told mesothelioma was a death sentence. I wasn’t that fussed because everyone has to die some time.

“But the interesting thing for me was how long it would take – would it take weeks or years?”

And would £10,000 still be worth anything in years to come? And would the Daily Mail find scientic evidence that betting gives you cancer..?
