The Indepedent Newspaper: Dead By Christmas

by | 20th, September 2009

15384763DOES anyone read the Independent, the newspaper that today asks: “Is Megari guilty or innocent?”,  focus on details of an investigation that might have been had it taken place before he was released? And if that’s not enough there’s news that “Chancellor Alistair Darling is accused of blocking plans for a tax on worldwide currency transactions that could raise up to £30bn for developing countriezzzzzzzz.”

The Indy would be better as a web site.

Anyhow:

Independent News & Media could close its flagship title The Independent by Christmas, according to the Irish publisher’s second biggest shareholder.

Denis O’Brien told the Global Irish Economic Forum yesterday: “There’s no point in us, as a company, subsidising a newspaper that really nobody wants to read. It’s not a relevant newspaper any more and this newspaper’s going to be closed by Christmas.”

At last – something for Indy hacks to write about that the we may be interested to read…
