ANTHONY Vickers on how sports and politcs only mix when cheap goals need scoring:

First the numbers. The Labour manifesto is 78 pages long and contains 30,755 words of which 550 are about sport. That makes them the winners. The Conservative manifesto is 131 pages long and has 28,850 words. There are 123 words on sport. The Liberal Democrats 112 page manifesto has 21,600 words, 96 about sport.
