RIP Kaziemierz Jagodinski: The Clown Who Escaped 11 Nazi Concentration Camps

RIP Kaziemierz Jagodinski, aka Kash and the ‘Del Boy of Haslingden’, a man who endured no less than 11 German concentration camps – he escaped from all of them.

The eleventh time he made it to safety.

In 1947 the Pole was in England, where he joined the Billy Smart Circus as a clown and elephant escort.

His son Kris tells the Lancashire Telegraph:

“He used to hide in hay bales and sleep in fields. Sometime he would wake up being kicked by German soldiers. He said if he’d been older he would not have been able to deal with the things he had to endure.”

After an itinerant life, he settled in Lancashire. He died age 84.

No film of his life has been made. But it should be…
