Canada Bans Dire Straits’ Money For Nothing: Animated Sting Must Die

by | 14th, January 2011

CANADA likes to be noticed. And news reaches us that the latest plot to remind the world that the land above the US of A is not just an oxygen storage depot of California, is that the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has decreed that Dire Straits’ 1980s protest song of working stiffs Money for Nothing must not be played on Canadian radio.

A listener complained to St. John’s radio station CHOZ-FM. that the word faggot is “extremely offensive” to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The Council rules that “faggot,” when used to describe a homosexual, is “even if entirely or marginally acceptable in earlier days, is no longer so.”
