THE Champions League Final – the pinnacle of club football, where the richest club wins and the money men dance. Oh, cyncial much. Well, granted, the cup is still dusted in magic. But get a load of Barcelona, with their “more than a club” bilge rammed down your throat. It’s so irksome. The club that plays great football also plays to get an opponent sent off. Barcelona is not more than a club. It is a club sponsored by the Qatar Foundation – as in Qatar, the country staging the corrupt 2022 World Cup in temperatures your oven cannot reach – a place blessed with a football infrastructure slighly less advanced than a Surrey five-a-side youth Cup. Is it ok to hate Barcelona. Yes, feel free. They are the most cynical outfit in world football…
