‘Devil’ Karen Matthews gets Rebekah Brooks makeover
KAREN Matthews is the “DEVIL”. So says the Sun, which adds that woman who faked her daughter Shannon Matthews’ kidnap is in “disguise”.
The Devil is a master of disguise, even better than Heidi Klum. To date, the Devil has appeared as a serpent, a great red dragon, an archangel (all Bible), two brothers in Edlington, a dog in Stratford, East London (both the Sun), Haiti and Karren Brady’s chest. Now the Devil is a middle-aged mum-of-seven who is “slimmer and disguised with a new short hairdo” on a trip to buy ciggies.
The Sun adds:
Cruel Matthews looked chuffed to bits when she went shopping yesterday sporting the striking makeover.
“Chuffed to bits” seems to mean looking pensive as a stranger takes your photo and being “carefree” carrying a thin blue corner shop carrier bag.
The Sun spots a “local”:
And a local living near the probation hostel where she is staying said: “She will now truly know she will never be able to escape the legacy of her wickedness.”
And then this:
The Sun understands probation officials have privately voiced concerns that despite her new look, Matthews would be unable to hide from the spotlight for long.
Adding:
It is thought Matthews may be moved now her new “identity” has been compromised.
Having heard that “local” bemoaned the money spent on cutting Karen Matthews’ hair and giving her a bedroom in a hostel, the Sun says that thanks to newspaper reports more money will be spent moving Matthews to a new safe location.
If only this ginger woman on the police’s radar could live in a huge mansion behind high walls like the Sun’s old editor Rebekah Wade, say, decent folk would not have to worry (and paparazzi could be kept well away).
Having selflessly drawn attention to the probation services inability to keep Karen Matthews out of the papers, the Sun reminds readers that she is “wicked” and “hoped to pocket a £50,000 reward put up by The Sun to find the ‘missing’ child”.
Had the Sun and its sister organ the News of the World been less keen to take ownership of Madeleine McCann – it has since slapped its company logo on Baby P and Joanna Yeates – would the Matthews plot offered any appeal?
It’s not just about Karen Matthews, is it? It’s about a tabloid’s revenge…

Shannon was "drugged to subdue her" as part of a "dishonest and wicked plan" to kidnap her by her mother and the man in whose flat she was found, Michael Donovan, a jury heard today.
