Transfer balls: Arsenal get three players they don’t want

Transfer Balls spots this gem in the Daily Express: “CONFIRMED: Arsene Wenger reveals the THREE players joining Arsenal this summer.”

Can it be that after playing his cards so close to his chest for years, the Arsenal boss has taken to advertising his intentions in the transfer market before the summer has even begun? Has Bruce Archer the scoop of scoops?

No. The entire story runs like this:

Wenger insists he will not be making any big signings but his three loanees will return when the season is over.

So. The three players revealed to be joining Arsenal are three players who are already on Arsenal’s books. Take a bow, Daily Express, for producing a headline and teaser more loaded than Boris Johnson at a Bullingdon Club dinner.

The paper continues:

Lukas Podolski joined Inter Milan, Joel Campbell moved to Villarreal and Yaya Sanogo moved to Crystal Palace. And Wenger says they will be back at the Emirates to help next season’s title charge.

He did? What he said was:

“We have a big squad now, we have Podolski away, Campbell, Sanogo will come back.”

Or as we’ve read:

“ARSENAL are set to offer Lukas Podolski plus cash in exchange for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu…”

“Arsenal could swap Joel Campbell in a bid to sign Sporting Lisbon … Carvalho’s asking price to £21.5million…”

“Alan Pardew eyeing permanent Yaya Sanogo Palace deal…”

All three stories and more were in the Daily Express…
