Murder and mayhem in Tunisia, Kuwait and France: gay marriage made me do it

by | 27th, June 2015

The past week was full of murder. In Tunisia, an Islamist murdered 37 people, many of whom are British holidaymakers. In Kuwait an Islamic State fan murdered 27 people at a Shi’ite mosque. In France an Islamist decapitated a man at a gas product factory in France.

The Islamic State voice is delighted:

“Muslims, embark and hasten toward jihad,” said the Islamic State’s spokesman, Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, in an audio message released this week. “Oh mujahedeen everywhere, rush and go to make Ramadan a month of disasters for the infidels.”

David Cameron, as ever becomes an instant expert in theology, telling us that the terrorism was “not in the name of Islam. Islam is a religion of peace”. The killers, rather, “do it in the name of a twisted, perverted ideology”.

What self-aggrandizing drivel. How can Cameron, like Obama and all other Western leaders who say the jihadis are not “real Muslims” know more about Islam than Muslims prepared to murder for their beliefs? The killers see themselves as Muslims. But the Western leaders are too scared to say so, worried that non-Muslims are so stupid they will see all Muslims as murderous loons and race riot.

Everyone loses.

Only a bigot will present all Muslims as the same. To the sane, human conformity is ridiculous. It’s clear that Muslims are as different from each other as members of any other group are. The issue is what creates a jihadi? What’s the push? What’s the pull?

Abdul-Azim Ahemed cites a views in the Indy:

As Dr Suraj Lakhani, a researcher on radicalisation, puts it: “[Radicalisation] is not just about the eternal rewards people mention when talking of ‘jihad’ […] It is also about those involved with these types of activities feeling special and significant; it is about them tapping into the perception held by certain people that extremism is cool; and it is a chance for them to be able to demonstrate their masculinity and define a distinct identity for themselves. It gives them an escape from their potentially normal and predictable lives.”

Meanwhile, in the West…

Or, to put it another way, Did gay marriage create the Islamic state?’

Look out for more questions no-one in the West should be asking.
