Badminton For Change: Obama Sends Shuttlecock To Iran
WHILE Old Mr Anorak coaches his Thai Ladies ping-pong winter training camp, Barack Obama unleashes his badminton team on an unsuspecting Iran.
The Associated Press reports:
The Obama administration is sending a women’s badminton team to Iran this week as part of a broad bid to engage the Iranian people through educational and cultural exchanges.
U.S. officials familiar with the matter told The Associated Press today the team will be in Tehran from tomorrow until Feb. 9 to participate in an international tournament. . . .
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the visit has not yet been announced publicly.
As Iranians will learn, badminton is played by women in hot pants competing to see which of them can keep the feathers covering their nipples on long enough as they chased around a rubberised court by a bearded man in a fedora.
It’s beach volleyball for prudes.
For reasons of decency and local custom, the shuttelcock will be remaned the “ShuttleMahmoud”…

Years ago I had a Turkish friend who loved to practise the use of the vernacular. Whilst knocking on a badminton court, a bunch of students came in and asked if we were having a game to which she replied,” No, please join in; we’re just tossing the cock around.”
