Madeleine McCann: McCanns Add Official Book To Your ‘Our Maddie’ Collection

by | 15th, November 2010

MADELEINE MCCANN: Kate and Gerry McCann are to turn their daughter into a book. Well, it’s time for another book. We’ve already had:

November 2007: Madeleine: A Most Heartbreaking And Extraordinary Disappearance, by Robert Downing. It’s published by Northern & Shell, who own the Daily Express.

July 2008: The Suspicions of Mr Whicher: Or The Murder at Road Hill House, by Kate Summerscale, wins a literary award.

It’s 1860 all over again, in the Mail:

Just as the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann today produced a massive reaction among the public, so the gruesome murder of Saville Kent provoked national hysteria in Victorian England…

October 2008: Kate McCanns Diary

Or which the Mail speculated in 2007:

Kate McCann could expect to receive a seven-figure sum for her Madeleine diaries, were she to sell the rights to a publishing house

December 2008: A self-published book by armchair detectives.

October 20, 2010: Goncalo Amaral’s book The Truth Of The Lie. You can now buy it legally in Portugal. But not in the UK – yet…

So. What about the new book in the Our Maddie collection (look out for a magazine with free ring binder in Issue 1)?

Transworld will publish the book. All monies earned will fund the McCanns’ official fund to search for Madeleine.

The book will be called Madeleine. It will be in the shops and in the papers on April 28 2012.

Says Kate McCann:

“My reason for writing is simple – to give an account of the truth.”

But she’s done that to the police and to the media already. Why in a book?

“Publishing this book has been a very difficult decision and is one that we have taken after much deliberation and with a very heavy heart. However, in the last few months, with the depletion of Madeleine’s Fund, it is a decision that has virtually been taken out of our hands.”

Goncalo Amaral has won the latest round of his legal fight with the McCanns. Lisbon’s Court of Appeal has overturned the ban on Goncalo Amaral’s book The Truth Of The Lie. Legal bills are never cheap.

If someone is willing to pay large for Kate McCann to lend her name to a book, and if she could use the money, why not make the deal? Why should the media be the only ones to profit from her story? She adds:

“Our hope is that it may prompt those who have relevant information – knowingly or not – to come forward and share it with our team. Somebody holds that key piece of the jigsaw.”

It’s yours for £20.
