Anthony McCalla Charged With Attempting To Murder 5-Year-Old Thusha Kamaleswaran: Other Blacks Innocent

by | 2nd, April 2011

ANTHONY McCalla is the 19-year-old charged with two counts of attempted murder following the shooting of Thusha Kamaleswaran, aged 5, and Roshan Selvakumar, 35, in Stockwell, London.

He is not 13, as the sensationalist press reported. He is 19. He is an adult.

Although, police have also arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder.

McCalla will appear at the Old Bailey on June 10.

The Mail reports:

Thusha was hit in the chest and Mr Selvakumar, 35, suffered a head wound as two black youths cowered in the store after being chased by three other black youths on bicycles.

Black. How relevant is that? Telegraph writes:

Officers are investigating whether the incident was a “tit for tat” attack by a rival gang in revenge for an earlier shooting. Two black youths being chased by three other black youths on bicycles sought refuge in the shop.

Metro calls them “youths“, and makes no mention of their skin colour. The Independent makes not mention of the word “black“.

The BBC says:

Thusha was hit in the chest and Mr Selvakumar suffered a head wound as two youths cowered in the store after being chased by three other youths on bicycles.

Do you recognise that report from the Daily Mail and Telegraph’s? All are a take on the Press Association’s report that included mention of blackness:

Thusha – believed to be London’s youngest gun crime victim – was hit in the chest and Mr Selvakumar suffered a head wound as two black youths cowered in the store after being chased by three other black youths on bicycles.

Why did the BBC remove the reference to “black”? Why did the PA, Mail and Telegraph include it?

Sky News calls McCalls a “teenager“. Again, there is no mention of his being black.

The lcoal Guardian paper does not see black as relevant:

A 19-year-old from Streatham appeared in court this morning charged with shooting a five-year-old girl in the chest and a 35-year-old man in the face.

The Sun says:

A BOY of 14 was arrested yesterday over the shooting of five-year-old Thusha Kamaleswaran

The Star says:

Thusha and shopkeeper Roshan Selvakumar, 35, were gunned down on Tuesday night in a bungled attempt to shoot two youths who ran into the Stockwell Food and Wine store.

Is the Daily Mail trying to demonise black youths?
