Parking Meter Robin Hood Detonates 14 Meters In Lewes, East Sussex

by | 24th, November 2011

PEOPLE, described on the BBC as “vandals”, have used explosives to destroy 14 parking meters in Lewes, East Sussex.

East Sussex County Council says lives have been put at risk. No, not livelihoods funded by punitive parking charges. Actual lives.

There has been 15 attacks on 14 meters in the past three months.

Councillor Carl Maynard says such behaviour, often with fireworks, could seriously injure a passer-by. But it hasn’t. Moreover, no passers-by have even come forward to say they have witnessed the attacks.

But the good news is that you can profit from the villainy. No, not by renting yourself out as a human parking meter. Demanding money with menaces to let drivers park on roads they paid to build and use in order for them to spend cash in local shops is not on (unless you’re the council). We speak of a reward. East Sussex council, Lewes council and Sussex Police are offering a £1,250 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the parking meter bandits.

Ch Insp Natalie Moloney, Lewes district police commander, tells media:

“I can’t believe anyone would be so reckless as to carry out such potentially dangerous acts. I’m amazed someone hasn’t been injured.”

We’re amazed none of it was captured on CCTV.
