Madeleine McCann: New Suspect Captured On Video

by | 2nd, May 2010

MADDIE WATCH – Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann – The Daily Express leads with news of a new suspect. And they have been caught on “film”.

As we approach the third anniversary of Our Maddie, a new suspect is introduced. Before that  a prayer:

Daily Mirror: “HOPE FOR A MIRACLE”

Parents Kate and Gerry have worked tirelessly to find out what happened to her. So it’s poignant when their five-year-old son Sean tells them not to give up hope – as they never will. Neither should we.

Mawlish. Exploitative nonsense. These are easy, lazy words trotted out by a paper keen to foment emotion in its readers. Do all Mirror readers pray for Our Maddy? No. The child has become an emotional totem. We do not care all that much for the parents. We just stare at them. They entertain the masses. The McCanns distract us from our own problems. And the ‘what ifs’ entertain the ghouls. Amazing if the child were found alive and well – a happy ending to the story. But it would not be a mircale. It would not be a sign of God’s love.

Pictures Of All The Madeleine McCann Suspects

It’s front-page news:

“Key witness reveals existence of important new evidence”

The McCanns want the Portuguese to reopen the investigaion. They have released a new picture of their daughter. Well, it’s an old one, but new to the media. Says Mr Gerry McCann:

In an interview with a Portuguese newspaper, Mr McCann said: ‘There are leads, clues which weren’t investigated. That information has been sent to the authorities. ‘We know that one of the leads was followed up and eliminated, and another was considered irrelevant. We don’t agree. I’m not saying we have somebody who saw Madeleine. But clues lead to other clues and we have to convince the police to investigate them.’

GAIL COOPER will never forget the day she stared into the “dead eyes” of the man she believes abducted Madeleine McCann three years ago tomorrow.

The weirdo looks like Killer Bob from Twin Peaks, George Harrison and a waiter who used to work in a cafe off the Holloway Road. And Joaquim Agostinho. He was fingered by the press:

“Detectives are to quiz a drifter who looks uncannily like a mystery suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. Joaquim Agostinho, 42, denies he is the creepy man depicted in a sketch issued by parents Kate and Gerry McCann

“But Metodo 3, the Spanish private investigators hired by the McCanns, are taking the possibility seriously”

Said Mr Agostinho:

”I cannot even drive. I accept that the drawing looks like me. All my friends have been laughing about it”

We met Mrs Cooper in January 2008. Who told us of the man she says she saw:

My judgment is that this man was very suspicious and could have been the kidnapper’”

Said she:

Says Gail Cooper: “In my job I have to assess people and make a judgment. My judgment is that this man could have been the kidnapper. I would recognise him immediately if I saw him again. His appearance has really stuck in my mind. What happened is still very vivid to me”

The Guardian reported:

“The long-haired man seen by Gail Cooper, 50, three times in late April last year, was said by Jane Tanner, a friend of the McCanns, to bear a “strong resemblance” to the man she saw carrying a child in pink pyjamas and bare feet from the complex on May 3, the night Madeleine vanished”

And again, when the Daily Mirror brought us: “NEW LEAD ON MADDY”

British tourist Gail Cooper says she saw a “mystery man hanging around Madeleine McCann’s holiday flat just days before she vanished”. Like Paul Gordon did

Ms Cooper say: “He was horrible looking man , really creepy, unkempt and dirty. He definitely wasn’t Portuguese. He scared me”

Then Gail Cooper returned to Praia da Luz: “Maddie Witness Flies Back To Portugal”

“A British gran who saw the Madeleine McCann kidnap suspect has flown to Portugal to help in the hunt for the toddler. Gail Cooper, 50, has returned to the resort in Praia da Luz where she spotted the long-haired man lurking days before Madeleine vanished. She’ll meet private detective agency Metodo 3 and retrace the suspect’s movements”

Now Gail tells us of the man who kncked her her door:

“I have a very clear image in my mind of the man I saw and I think it will stay with me for the rest of my life,” she said. “At first I just thought he was a conman but now I believe he could be much more dangerous. I will never forget his dark, dead eyes and the way he threw his arms about in a very jerky way.

“He was very agitated at the front door of the villa and he looked quite disturbed when he was wandering around on the beach in the rain. The sooner he is found the better.”

And she’s been back to Praia again:

I believe the man I saw was the same person who abducted Madeleine McCann,” said Mrs Cooper, who was flown back to Luz last week by the Sunday Express in an attempt to unlock the mystery.

“More people need to see this footage to discover where he is.”

Meanwhile, here’s a new video of Our Maddie to be entertained by. As the Indy says:

The still pictures of Madeleine messing around with her mother’s make-up and jewellery at her home punctuate a poignant video, shot by a family friend to commemorate the 1,000th day since her disappearance, and which is being made available for all to watch and remember the anguish of those first few painful days

And you will have help in finding Our Maddie:

KATE and Gerry McCann have revealed how their twins have vowed to rescue missing sister Madeleine from her abduction hell.

Three years on – no suspects. No clue. No sign of the innocent child…
