How To Behave In 1920s New York: An Illustrated Guide

VISITORS to 1920s NYC  could study the Valentine’s City of New York: A Guide Book. As any reader of P.G. Wodehouse’s Psmith, Journalist will now full well, New York was a dangerous place back then, overrun by gangs, slum landlords and shysters.

THESE days the King’s Road looks not unlike many other high-streets across the country, albeit a bit posher. If you stroll down the road you’ll see, just like anywhere else, Boots, WH Smiths and the ubiquitous coffee-shop chains. In fact, always a trend-setter, the King’s Road was where Starbucks chose to open its first ever UK coffee-shop just fifteen or so years ago in 1998. Of course it has a McDonald’s like anywhere else but the King’s Road McDonalds is a bit different to most – it used to be the Chelsea Drugstore.

McDonald’s Gets Dinged By The French Taxman

IT’S something of a pity that the various taxmen across Europe don’t actually understand the tax laws that they’re supposed to be administering. We had the case a couple of weeks back of Italy trying to impost the “Google Tax” in clear violation of EU law and here we’ve the French taxman going after McDonalds. Again, seemingly ignorant of the fact that they’re just not allowed to do this under EU law.

Not A Hate Crime: Homophobic, Anti-White, Domestically Abused, English Hating Blackburn Siblings Jailed For Attempting To Kidnap Sister’s Lesbian Lover

Siblings blackburn muslims

TO Lancashire, where a woman’s six siblings have been arrested for trying to kidnap her white, non-Muslim girlfriend and threatening to murder her. They did because she had “messed with the wrong Muslims”.

Nazma Ditta, 28, one of nine children, was having a love affair with Sarah-Jane Harrison, 35, a colleague at Blackburn’s USC Clothing clothes shop. One day in June last year, a trio of Nazma’s sisters accosted Harrison outside the store. They beat her up.

Pope Francis Starts The Vatican’s Annual Dove Hunt – Photos

DOES Pope Francis approve of dove hunting? During his Angelus prayer, the Pope oversaw the release of two doves. Within seconds they were attacked by a large black crow in St. Peter’s Square. Then a seagull swooped down to join in. The doves’ fate was not immediately known.

But doves are the embodiment of evil and we pray for their souls.

See how they move to attack him.

Thomas Perkins Is A Leading JEW: A Victim Of Jealously Earned Wealth

Finest Crystal Nacht (aka The Dinner Party)

Finest Crystal Nacht (aka The Dinner Party)

THOMAS Perkins is being persecuted. His bloodline is a story of horror and systematic abuse. You see, Mr Perkins is rich. He is one of the one percent. Hell, he’s worth $8bn. He’s one of the one percent’s one percent. And he’s feeling persecuted. He’s living in a gated community, or ghetto, from which he can only leave at the gatekeeper’s approval. His house is full of uniformed spies, the eyes and ears disguised as maids, drivers, toothpaste squeezers and gardeners. Mr Perkins is a JEW. No. He’s not an actual Jew. He has Jealously Earned Wealth.

In a letter to the Wall Street Journal, Perkins speaks of “parallels” between the treatment of lower-case Jews in Nazi Germany and the “progressive war on the American one percent”. He notes:

“Writing from the epicenter of progressive thought, San Francisco, I would call attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its ‘one percent’, namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the ‘rich’.

Give Back My Kidney: Devon Woman Wants Estranged Husband To Return Her Donated Organ

THE People report on “Caring Samantha Lamb”, 41, of Ivybridge, Devon, who gave one of her kidney’s to ailing husband Andy, 45. The People says it saved his life. She says after the transplant he had an affair. He says he didn’t. She wants her kidney back. You could deduce that she wants him dead.

Says the mum-of-one:  “I can’t believe he now has a second chance to live to see his grandchildren grow up. I would definitely go through the operation again – but I wouldn’t give the kidney to him. I hate him. If I could I’d take it back and give it someone else. Obviously I don’t want people to be put off putting their names on the organ donor list. But all I want from him is his name on the divorce papers.”

Sublime Footage Of Berlin In 1900

AS the world gears up for the First World WAr Centenary remembrances, we bring this video of life in booming Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century. Germany was a land of duchies, grand duchies, principalities and kingdoms ruled by Kaiser Wilhelm II , eldest grandson of the British Queen Victoria, first cousin to Queens Marie of Romania, Maud of Norway and Victoria Eugenie of Spain, and second cousin to Tsar Nicholas II of the House of Romanov, the last ruler of the Russian Empire. Wilhelm would be Germany’s last emperor.  Perhaps his most famous act was to urge Germans to put down the anti-Western Boxer Rebellion in China by declaring:

“Just as the Huns under their King Atilla made a name for themselves a thousand years ago which still, in saga and tradition, makes them appear powerful, so may the name ‘German’ be impressed by you for a thousand years, that no Chinese will ever dare again look askance at a German!”

Manchester United Will Finish Joint Fifth With Arsenal, Says BBC’s Expert Tipster

The lone voice in the wilderness covers all every angle

The lone voice in the wilderness covers all every angle

ROBBIE Savage Watch: Having told us that Everton would finish 8th, 7th and 4th in the Premier League, Savage turns his mind of Manchester United. Having tied himself in knots over their transfer policy, Savage writes / trolls in his Daily Mirror column:

Fans who laughed at me after the summer window, when I said United would finish fifth, are not so vocal now. But just as I appeared to be a lone voice in the wilderness five months ago, I do hold out some hope for Moyes in the transfer market if Mata proves to be the first of several new signings.

That would be the BBC’s Robbie Savage who twice tipped Manchester United to finish third, fighting for the title with Man City and Chelsea. Arsenal, he said, had “no chance” and would finish… fifth.

Such are the facts…

Adolf Hitler Died In Brazil? Yes – And This Moustache Proves It

PA-4762927

CAN it be true? Did Adolf Hitler life to the ripe old age of 95? In Brazil. With a black wife? It’s the bit about Brazil that gives the far-fetched story a ring of might-be-true. But what about the rest of it? The Daily Express’ headline is tremendous:

The INCREDIBLE picture that ‘proves’ Adolf Hitler lived to 95 with his Brazilian lover

Curse those inverted commas round ‘proves’. If it needs a grammatical caveat, why say it’s proof? Gareth Morgan writes on:

THIS is the picture that proves Adolf Hitler did not die in his bunker and escaped to Brazil where he lived to the ripe old age of 95, a Nazi-hunting author claims.

brit foods canada

CANADA has closed it borders to Marmite, Irn Bru, Bovril and Penguin bars.

A Mr – get this – Tony Badger,  owner of a British foods shop in Saskatoon, central Canada, says his goods have been impounded. He told CKOM news: ““My understanding was we were importing legally. We’ve been declaring it through a customs broker and we’ve never had an issue until now.”

Here’s a look around the shop, with authentic 1950s intermission music in keeping with the general theme of Canada being 60 years behind the UK:

6 Awkward and Bizarre Game Show Moments

1-11-2014 3-52-37 PM

WE’VE all seen the lists of top ten outrageous game show moments.  This isn’t one of those.  I’m not interested in zany answers or your standard cheesy game show tomfoolery.  We’re looking at those moments that just leave you feeling uncomfortable.

RIOTOUS REACTION TO WOMAN’S PANTIES

A “Match Game” contestant in a miniskirt bends over to hug a celeb whilst flashing the TV audience her undergarments.  Nothing alarming about that – what is alarming is the rapturously orgasmic reaction from McLean Stephenson and host Gene Rayburn.  You’d think they just simultaneously won the lottery and the World Cup.  I’ve never seen such jubilation at the sight of a woman’s panties.  Alas, it was the 1970s, and people just acted… different.

Victoria Line Cement Man Identified

CONCRETE in the Victoria Line control room gave most of us a laugh. Tube sign writers raise a smile. But what says the RMT union? How did it happen? Who is to blame? This is what their spokesman said:

“We understand that a foot of concrete burst into the control room, having been poured into an escalator void.”

Electronic Heroin: A Look Inside China’s Internet Addiction Therapy Centres

SO hooked on gaming are some Chinese players that they wear nappies to avoid taking bathroom breaks. The New York Times has produced this short film on how the wired youth are weaned off electronica at treatment camps. The attitude of one therapist is that the internet is akin to “electronic heroin”, which suggests he has no idea how heroin works.

This is how China treated heroin addicts in the 1930s:

China's Anti-Narcotic Laws, sentencing convicted drug-dealers and addicts to death, came into force first on January 8 when a drug-dealer was executed in Peiping. Five more were shot there on January 13, and the authorities state that further executions are scheduled until the drug traffic is stamped out there. Huge crowds attend the executions, and beforehand vast amounts of drugs are burned. Apart from Peiping, the laws have failed to take effect in most districts. One of the drug-dealers is forced to kneel whilst a soldier shoots him through the head from close range in Peiping, China, on Jan. 13, 1937. (AP Photo)

Copyright Balls: Spotify versus Thom Yorke and Dre’s Beats

PA-17146398

SPOTIFY has been incredibly divisive in the music industry, with some looking at it like a perfectly good promo tool to promote artists, while others think it’s stealing all their lovely royalties. Others sit somewhere between the two, thinking At Least It Isn’t Illegal Downloading.

Music fans are equally divided, with someone wondering why you’d pay a subscription for music you can’t keep, while others love how it opens up a huge library of music to delve into, make playlists and more.

Crime Fighting with Twinkies: Comic Book Superheroes Turn To Sugary Cream-Filled Cake

6421806929_558c1482f7_b

MANY of you will remember the Hostess snack adverts that appeared in comic books throughout the 70s.  They all had the same basic story: a villain is subverted from his diabolical plan by a well-known superhero… and the help of a sugary cream-filled cake.

This may be genius marketing (after all, comic books and junk food go well together), but it’s also a bit troubling because it calls a few things into question:

  1. Exactly how special are our superheroes (Batman, Spider-Man, etc.) when all it takes to vanquish an arch-enemy is a box of Twinkies?  Subsequently, doesn’t this call into question the severity of the threats in the first place? I mean, if Lex Luthor can be stopped by a package of sugary sweets, what does this say about his evil villain status?
  2. What ingredients are in these treats?  These superheroes and villains possess incredible powers, yet it’s the snack cake that wins every time.
