EDL Facebook Fans Call For Death To Muslims: Waissel And Alibhai-Brown Go Free

KATIE Waissel and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown are targeted by the internet gods: Waissel is hit by savage keystrokes from X Factor fans; Alibhai-Brown is the subject of a stoning joke by a Tory Councillor Gareth Compton.

The police investigate the Waisell threats. Compton is under investigation by the police. He has been arrested under section 127(1a) of the 2003 Communications Act for sending an offensive or indecent message. He has been bailed pending further inquiries. Compton is also suspended from the Conservative Party. He’s a barrister, so any criminal proceedings could severely damage his career.

The row began after Yasmin Alibhai-Brown appeared on a BBC radio programme and argued Britain’s politicians had no right to condemn human rights abuses such as stoning in other countries, because of the country’s record in Iraq. Coun Compton sent a message saying: “Can someone please stone Yasmin Alibhai-Brown to death? I shan’t tell Amnesty if you don’t. It would be a blessing, really.”

The TV show starlet and the media commentator make it into the news, naturally. But one internet death campaign you won’t have read about in the mainstream media is the one aimed at the Priapic Islamists who on Remembrance Day made a point of standing on London’s Exhibition Road (indeed) to yell and burn a giant poppy (in your face, Cherie Blair). The leader of the English Defence League, Tommy Robinson, was arrested in the melee.

Photos: EDL Clashes With Muslims Against Crusades On Exhibition Road

REMEMBRANCE DAY: In London, the English Defence League (EDL) was there to shout slogans at the equally shouty Muslims Against Crusades (MAC). Unite Against Facism (UAF) was not there to shout down the EDL nor the MAC, thereby missing the chance to met a new acronym. (Note to MAC – apple have already done it; if you are going to a be global brand, it might be an idea to rethink the acronym.) But you want to know where this protest was held? On… Exhibition Road. Indeed. It’s Tannoy envy gone mad…

Kentucky Fried Chicken Halal: When KFC Met The EDL

WHEN Kentucky Fried Chicken trialled halal meat at a few of their Lancashire outlets (inc: Accrington, Blackburn, Colne and Burnley) the reaction was less than tasteful. There were protests. Muslim mums wept that now there was one less battier to their children eating junk food. Anti-Muslims screamed: “Keep Our Imported Fried Chicken English and Christian!” And then the English Defence League (EDL) got involved.

Anorak’s Karen has followed the story:

March 15 2010: It’s Not Muslim Chicken

In a statement the LCM (Lancashire Council of Mosques) said: “Upon researching KFC’s website, it is apparent the chickens are stunned before slaughter. This issue is of great concern to us because the halal criterion, adopted by LCM after wide consultation, does not allow stunning and this conforms to British law.”

Sky News says: “English Defence League protesters attacked a Sky News satellite truck.”

The Leicester Mercury reports: “Violent clashes have broken out between EDL supporters and members of the local black and Asian community.”

Incidentally, there was no Premier League or Championship football this weekend.

English Defence League Take On Unite Against Fascism In Bradford (In Photos)

THE ENGLISH Defence League (EDL) v Unite Against Fascism (UAF) in Bradford was billed as a battle. Police have erected an 8ft-high temporary barricade around the city’s Urban Gardens, where the EDL were due to meet. There were metal detectors and more security than at a Katie Price wedding. Indeed, the security outnumbers the teams who met for their habitual weekend get together.

Signs held aloft proclaim:

“I support women’s rights therefore I am an infidel”

“Every new mosque is a nail in Britain’s coffin”

“No Sharia law”

EDL March In Westminster: Pictures And No Football

IN Westminster, something called the English Nationalist Alliance and the English Defence League marched in protest against Sharia law and Islamic fundamentalism within the UK. Theirs is an anti-Muslim message. Police made one arrest.

In other news, EDL member John Broomfield and six others have been arrested for an alleged plot to cause an explosion at a Bournemouth mosque. Mr Broomfield says five of the people arrested are in the EDL. All the arrested people were later released without charge.

Says Broomfield:

“While travelling home from work I was stopped and arrested by armed police. I approached a roundabout near Corfe Castle and there were about six cars in front of me.

“There was an unmarked police car in a lay-by, and within seconds of me stopping, police appeared from it, ran up the road and shot at my tyres and smashed the window in.”

“I was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion at a Bournemouth mosque.”

Downing Street Protest League: Nationalists, Islamists, Islamist Anti-Fascists And Peaceful Muslims’ Day Out

FOR those of you unable to make it to Whitechapel for the anti-fascist march, there was day out to be had by Downing Street. For anyone bored by the World Cup and looking to behave like a travelling football fan, there was the chance to join the Islamists (black socks, back tops, white trim); the EDL (red and white tops with black boots); Unite Against Fascism (purple with hints of Islamist FC black); and moderate Muslims (white).

The police wore dark blue.

There are five teams in a mini-league of protest – a domestic one world cup.

In Pictures: On The Anti-EDL And Anti-BNP March In Whitechapel

IN Whitechapel, East London, the anti-fascists are marching against the BNP and the English Defence League. Voices must be heard. Some marchers are brawling with the police. Less good. At the front of the march is the banner declaring: “TOWER HAMLETS – ONE COMMUNITY MANY CULTURES.” For sure. Whitechapel is in multi-cultural Tower Hamlets. A sense of unity is a noble aim. Tower Hamlets is home to the East London mosque. It’s a fine venue of spirituality. But there are some speakers not all that keen on one community. Do the anti-fascits march on the them next?

In Pictures: When The English Defence League Went To Aylesbury

DID you see The English Defence League hold a march and protest in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire? What is the purpose of these marches? With no political campaign, whatever the intent is, it has no chance of being made real. The BNP claim to stand for their version of Britain – a vision that looks not enough unlike an old German dream for these islands. Is the EDL the BNP without the foreign Nazis? Is the EDL protest a show of force born of fear? What is English and what is being defended – the right to free speech and protest? Tolerance? Democracy? If so, it’s job done. What lies at the heart of the protests?
