Wikileaks – What’s the Duke of York done now?

Half a day on from Wikileaks’ latest barrage and there’s still no update on one of the juiciest stories that we were promised details on. The Guardian, who has had access to all the leaks, is still keeping mum about some inappropriate remarks made by a member of the British Royal Family.

Although he has plenty of rivals in the foot in mouth league tables in the house of Windsor it is widely predicted that the Royal being referred to is in fact Prince Andrew – or Airmiles Andy as he is known these days thanks to his love of the old foreign jaunt.

Andy has plenty of form in this area too previously taking the US govt to task for not listening to British views on Iraq – a move which breaks royal protocol over what dukes can and can’t say about foreign governments.

So what do you think he has done now? Had a go at the Americans over Afghanistan? Suggested that a few of our former colonies, like the US and Ireland, might be better off being ruled by HM govt? Come on Wikikleaks and The Guardian, let’s have it.

Afghanistan Time To Go Demo: In Photos And Acronyms

ANOTHER weekend of demonstrations in London and with it the birth of another acronym for the media to conjure with. The British Muslim Initiative (BMI) is in central London as part in the Afghanistan: Time to Go demonstration. Joining them are CND and STWC (Stop The War Coalition). There were lots of banners and placards demanding “PEACE”. Do the peaceful march and shout? Or is PEACE another acronym (People Expect Acronyms Cleverly Explained)…

Without Medals For Afghanistan Soldiers Like Matt Croucher We’d Never See Them

THERE is war going on. While the Kafkaesque drones build by Tony Blair’s authoritarian stare arrest and set about ruining the life of Paul Chambers – read this – Lance Corporal Matt Croucher picked up a George Cross for his work in Afghanistan.

In February 2008, Croucher accidentally activated a trip wired grenade. Matt threw himself on the grenade saving the lives of 3 of his Comrades.

Other featured in our gallery are: Corporal Ricky Furgusson, Sergeant Karl Ley, Rifleman Peter Matthews, 21, and Rifleman Reece Terry.

It’s easy to forget them and the other soldiers. We only see them when they get a medal or meet a celebrity…

Meanwhile, Pastor Terry Jones makes his big statement – and the media tunes in. All of it. No news bulletin is complete without mention of this moment’s biggest D-list celebrity.

Afghanistan Police Smoking Hash For Peace: Operation BlowBack Video

THOSE leaked documents from Afghanistan never said anything about the marijuana and how Afghani police are forced to smoke it through rudimentary bongs. The hazy blue lione has recived a $27 billion international investment.

Wikileaks Gives Lazy Journalists Biased History Of War In Afghanistan: Pictures

US Sergeant Ryan Glover, tells al Jazeera’s Clayton Swisher.

“I wouldn’t say I feel threatened. But they act silly, just like anybody who smokes weed. They just act ridiculous. It’s hard to get them to focus. They won’t stay quiet. They’ve just got the giggles.”

How can you keep the peace if everyone is giggling? Sheesh!

Wikileaks Gives Lazy Journalists Biased History Of War In Afghanistan: Pictures

NEWS of the War in Afghanistan comes in the form of 90,000 documents leaked by the Wikileaks website. It’s news of the war between January 2004 and December 2009, as told by US military to Us military. The Guardian, the New York Times and Der Spiegel all lead with the leak.

9/11 pictures

Why did Wikileaks and its founder Julian Assange target these organs? What of the sites’ biases? Interesting and clever to get the mainstream media on side – and with all those corporate lawyers and high visibility should things turn nasty. The full story needs to be invesitgated.

Wikileaks understands this – and it understands that journalists have gotten lazy. Why investigate the difficult story of a distant war – and all that need to talk to actual soldiers and experience it first hand – when you can just publish a load of hand delivered info on the web from your armchair?

Why The Pentagon Is Hunting Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange Over Bradley Manning

And what of the shocks?

Well, there are the “black ops” soldiers who seek out the Taliban to kill without trial. There are more civilian deaths than many might have thought because the Taliban are trying to kill local police and have increased their use of road-side bombs.

Wikileaks And Julian Assange Caught In Bias Storm Over Reuter’s Iraqi Journalists ‘Slaughter’

The Guardian:

92,201 internal records of actions by the US military in Afghanistanbetween January 2004 and December 2009 – threat reports from intelligence agencies, plans and accounts of coalition operations, descriptions of enemy attacks and roadside bombs, records of meetings with local politicians, most of them classified secret.

US national security adviser Gen James Jones claims the leak “could put the lives of Americans and our partners at risk, and threaten our national security”.

Taliban Trains Army Of Monkeys To Fire Kalashnikovs At US Soldiers

FORGET the nuclear pigeons and the exploding breasts, and know that the Taliban have trained a millions monkeys to wage bloddy war on the West.

Gen Stanley McChrystal Scapegoats Obama And The Politicans

IN the closing stages of the film, A Bridge Too Far, we saw Generals Urqhart and Browning starting to distance themselves from what was then evident as a military disaster, with Browning uttering the immortal words: “I always felt we tried to go a bridge too far.”

There seems to me to be something of this with Gen Stanley McChrystal and his interview with Rolling Stone magazine. With the man admitting that everything said was on the record, and the magazine checking back with the General’s aides before using the quotes, we have on the face of it an example of a senior soldier committing professional suicide.

Barack Obama, David Cameron And The Mystery Of Robert Green’s Slick Gloves: Pictures

DAVID Cameron might consider himself fortunate there is war on. He gets to stand among the troops at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province and look hard.

And tough Dave’s been on the phone to Barack Obama to remind him that soaking Robert Green’s gloves in BP oil was an inspired ploy and left everyone feeling equal and happy.

England V USA: One Green Disaster After Another Green Disaster

Dave and Barry then, apparently, had a chat on the phone, although we think such calls should take place on a party line and give us all chance to listen in. Downing Street then issued a press release:

World Cup: England v USA Death Blog (Pictures)

President Obama said to the prime minister that BP was a multinational global company and that frustrations about the oil spill had nothing to do with national identity. The prime minister stressed the economic importance of BP to the UK, US and other countries. The president made it clear that he had no interest in undermining BP’s value.”

In Pictures: David Beckham In Afghanistan

DAVID Beckham went to see the lads in Camp Bastion, Helmand Province. He’s joined the Gunners. And by the looks of the pictures, he fits in. Is this a glimpse at the post-football future for Becks – a mascot for lost causes. First the England World Cup bid, now this. Can Day-vid lead the Labour Party? Will he put all his money in the euro?

If it is, it works. and judging by the way he handles the gun, it looks like his time in LA has not been a total waste.

It’s hard not to like David Beckham…

Pictures: With Impeccable Timing The Jamie Janes Inquest Begins

WITH impeccable timing, soldiers from the Grenadier Guards arrive at Brighton County Court for the inquest into the death of Guardsman Jamie Janes, 20, who was fatally wounded while on a foot patrol near Nad e-Ali district centre in Helmand, Afghanistan, on October 5 last year. It was Guardsman Janes, 20, of 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, whose death sparked a furore after Gordon Brown misspelt his name in a letter of condolence to his mother, Jacqui Janes. The row became a tabloid spat in which Jon Gaunt waded in  – with laughable results. An election looms. Do your duty…

In Pictures: X-Ray Of Live Ammo In Afghan Soldier’s Head

THIS is a picture of a two-inch long live round of ammunition lodged in the head of living Afghan soldier. The US Air Force image stems from work by Radiologist Lt Col Anthony Terreri. He explained the patient and discovered that the shrapnel was in fact a 14.5mm unexploded round. Says he:

“I saw that it was not solid metal on the inside. I then looked at the scout image and could see there was an air gap on one end and what looked almost like the tip of a tube of lipstick at the end and decided this didn’t look quite right.”

In Pictures: Gordon Brown’s Knife Crime Campaign Fails In Afghanistan

ON the day Gordon Brown lent his giant clunking fist to ‘Count Me In  Together We Can Stop Knife Crime‘, a drive to stamp out youth knife crime, the Taliban were handing over weapons to the Afghan government in Herat, west of Kabul. And not one knife was surrendered. Not. One. Gordon Brown would doubtless be dismayed by this. In other war news:  In Pictures: 15000 Bikers Ride For Afghan Troops In Wootton Bassett:

Afghanis Rush To Join Taliban To Claim Money In Restart Scheme

money1THE War on the Taliban will be won on the Field of Bribes. The Independent leads with the headline: “The new Afghan plan: buy off Taliban.” Right now hundreds and thousands of Afghanis are contemplating joining the Taliban to qualify for the restart scheme.

Suicide belts are expensive, you know. So too are bombs and petrol to get to the enemies camp. Being a suicide bomber is not cheap.

  • * Are you having trouble finding the money to flee to the West?
  • * Are you looking to buy bigger guns?
  • * Are you interersted in better fertilizers to grow better smack to export to the decadent West?

Here’s how. It cannot fail.

Britain and the US are backing a new strategy to buy off “soft” supporters of the Taliban in a radical attempt to end nine years of war in Afghanistan.

What about the hard supporters, the ones who may see the soft targets as, well, soft targets and take their money?

More than 60 delegations, from Colombia to Australia, will gather in Lancaster House this morning to draw up an exit strategy from Afghanistan. Much of it is based on reintegrating the Taleban rank and file, wooing the Taleban leadership and gradually handing security to the Afghan Army and police.  The conference is expected to agree a $500 million (£310 million), five-year fund for President Karzai to “buy off” insurgents who are not ideologically committed to destroying the West.

David Cameron In Afghanistan Is Grabba Ma Selling Houses, In Pictures

MORE on David Cameron’s visit to Afghanistan. Like Prince Charles, every picture of David Cameron screams out for a speech bubble. Cameron is a man ideally suited to captions. Who can but look at this picture of Dave in a jumper and jeans combo his grandpa bequeathed him and not imagine what the squaddies behind are thinking? More photos are emerging of Dave wandering aimlessly in Afghanistan in an estate agent’s suit, a Grabber Ma given the shiny-cheeked appearance of being alive. Enjoy all these photos and do offer up your captions – picture number 6 is fabulous.

Nasa Invites British To Test New Bomb On Moon

moon-bombForty years on from the first moon landing, British scientists find a way to bomb it…

NEIL Armstrong described the moon’s surface as “fine and powdery”. Buzz Aldrin, the man who came second, said the moon exhibited signs of “magnificent desolation”.

Forty years on, Nasa is still working out what to do with the moon, it’s big discovery; and has only now decided to bomb it.

When Anorak first heard the news that Nasa scientists will be “bombing” the Moon with two spacecraft, we supposed the moon had been earmarked as a zone in which to test weapons destined for the desolate sands of Iraq and Afghanistan.

But Nasa says the bombing run is an attempt to locate ice-water in the Cabeus south polar region, identified by a team from the University of Durham team as a site with high concentrations of hydrogen.

Lest you think the story of Jaycee Dugard is not relevant to you, dear Britisher, that you are just gawping at suffering and sensation, Sue Carroll sets you straight, and engages in a rich game of Tabolid Bingo. See how many stories you can spot being linked to Our Jaycee:

Daily Mirror: “Who’s to say there isn’t a Jaycee Lee Dugard in Britain?”

How ironic that during Jaycee’s incarceration the world has witnessed terrorist atrocities, disasters and war but missed completely the cruelty inflicted on an innocent little girl locked away in a paedophile’s suburban backyard.

9/11. Mumbai. Tsunami. Iraq. Bing…. Wait for it. Sue Carroll has more:
