James Bulger Killer Jon Venables Is Working For The Football Association: Daily Mirror Caught Offside

JON Venables is now working for the Football Association. As the Daily Mirror reports:

It was good enough for murderer Jon Venables in his latest trial and it will be introduced as an experiment by the FA this season.

A police van?

We’re talking video technology for disciplinary hearings.

The two pariahs of the tabloid news agenda are now linked – the killer paedo and the law-breaking footballer. Did Venables ever play footy to any decent standard? Just wondering if his life of crime was football’s loss?

Venables didn’t need to appear personally in court recently, he was linked to the courtroom by camera.

Jon Venables ‘Reunites’ With Robert Thompson In Tabloid Fantasy

JON Venables: Anorak reader MB directs us to Jon Venables story we missed. The People’s Nick Dorman delivers the news that Jon Venables “wants to be reunited with killer pal Robert Thompson”.

Venables and Thompson lilled James Bulger when they were age ten and their victim was 2. As we are told:

Evil Jon Venables is desperate to be reunited with his child killer pal Robert Thompson when freed from prison.

Well, so a source says. But the punctuation is such that it’s hard to see where what Venables is alleged to have said ends and what Dorman says begins:

Venables moaned: Losing Thommo as my mate has been a massive punishment in itself.

Jon Venables: Scared Of Piegons And Shagging A Big Brother Star

JON Venables: Sentenced to two years jail for child porn offences, one of James Bulger’s killers remains in the news: pigeons, moths, Big Brother and child abuse…

Justin Penrose has news of Jon Venables:

Child killer Jon Venables is refusing to use his prison exercise yard because he is terrified of pigeons…

And there are more facts from the quill of Penrose of the Prison Yard:

Venables was “jailed for two years a week ago for possessing and distributing child porn”…

Had only he stuck to that non-disturbing porn. and more news on the tabloids’ favourite paedo killer?

“Recently a moth got into his cell and he freaked out”

Jon Venables In Put On A High Fat Diet: Pictures

JON Venables is worse than a child killing paedophile. He’s a FAT child killing paedophile. In the tabloids, Venables’ fatness may well be the worst of this crimes. The Sun says:

TWISTED Jon Venables has ballooned to almost 18 stone while feasting on snacks in jail. The killer of two-year-old James Bulger has been spending £40 a week on his binges.

Or as the Sun told us in June:

CHUBBY Jon Venables has been put on a low-fat diet and exercise regime by jail chiefs.

That low-fat diet is said to include “26 choc bars, 20 bags of crisps and six packets of biscuits”.

Jon Venables Can Finally Speak Out: Pictures

JON Venables is front-page news. One of James Bulger’s killers is in jail for two years for possessing and distributing child porn.

Jon Venables

Court artist's impression of Jon Venables's appearance by videolink, to enter pleas to charges of downloading and distributing indecent images of children, at the Old Bailey, in central London.

Daily Mail (front page): “HOW DID THEY LET HIM SINK INTO A LIFE OF DEPRAVITY?”

The Mail wants to blame someone. Blame Venables? Too easy. Venables has been jailed for “horrific child porn”. Is there any other kind of child porn?

The Indy leads with a quote from Venables:

“I’m glad to be back in jail.”

Jon Venables Two Years For Child Rape Pictures And ‘Dawn’ Fantasy

JON Venables, one of James Bulger’s two killer, has been sentenced to two years jail for possessing child porn. He is banned from using the internet for five years. (Call the cyber police!) His names(s) will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

We heard that in online chats, Venables said he was a 35-year-old married woman called Dawn who had abused her eight-year-old daughter. Dawn was offering to sell access to her child.

Prosecuting, Mr Louis Mably, said some images found in Venables’ possession showed the rape of young girls. Adding:

“He stated he got sexually aroused looking at indecent images of children, it was ‘breaking the last taboo’.”

Jon Venables’s 42-inch World Cup TV

JON Venables has a 42-inch HD TV in his cell. He needs this to Watch the World Cup on. One of James Bulger’s killers needs this because his old telly was too small and his eyesight is not what is was. Well, so says Justin Penrose in the Mirror.

Venables is “sports-mad”.

Jon Venables ‘Strikes’ And What We Will Never Know

JON Venables: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at one of James Bulger’s killers in the news: Deborah Orr call for more information and understanding as media titillates its readers with horror…

The Weekly Vice website hears that Venables has been charged with possessing 57 pornographic images of children and yells:

Jon Venables Strikes Again…

Well, no. He has not murdered a child again. He is in the market for depravity, allegedly, but he has not struck again.

Venables is not accused of making the indecent images. We can argue if downloading – or looking, as it was once called in pre-computer times – is as bad as creating such images. Is the latter a thought crime? Venables must not explain why he had such heinous images, allegedly, just answer the charge that he had them.

This website then goes on to publish details of the crime in gruesome detail, inviting readers to download the sick story?

In the Guardian, Deborah Orr, writes:

Jon Venables: what we’ll never learn

This is a sickening allegation in any circumstances. In the context of the terrible and notorious crime that Venables committed during his childhood, it is almost indescribably alarming and disturbing.

Why The Narcissist Jon Venables ‘Looks’ At Child Porn

JON Venables is in jail. He faces a paedo porn charge. In the Guardian, Hadley Freeman muses on how he is trapped in time. Venabels is victim, too – a macabre tabloid Dorian Gray:

While it is entirely understandable why James Bulger’s parents, Ralph and Denise, should feel such hatred towards Venables, it is depressing to see the lack of human pity from those with no personal connection to the murder of James Bulger for this life that was so utterly ruined by the age of 10, and is as frozen in time as the 17-year-old photo still used to illustrate stories about him

Well, there is a lack of human pity in the tabloids for a man labelled a “monster”, “evil” and worst of all “fat”. But having made a salient point, Freeman then gets on to a spot of analysing the Venables mind:

That Venables’ childhood photo is used to illustrate stories about his alleged downloading of child porn only underlines why he might have some distinctly dubious feelings about children. What he only sees himself in a 17-year-old photo, never in, say, a mirror or a photo taken since? Venables is a narcissist with only one image of himself.

Jon Venables: Denise Fergus, Justice, A Monster And Child Porn

JON Venables: One of James Bulger’s killers has been charged with downloading 57 child porn pictures. James Bulger was murdered in 1993. He was two years old. Jon Venables is now aged 27. He was detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure, and released on licence under a new identity in 2001. In February Venables was recalled to jail. Reporting restrictions meant no-one could report on why Venables was back in prison. Now those restrictions have been lifted.

The story so far

The news round-up…

Jon Venable’s is the Star and Express’ front-page “monster”.

The Mail calls it a “victory for Press freedom”.

Denise Fergus is James Bulger’s mother. She responds.

I simply want to see justice done… My solicitor has also been in touch with the Ministry of Justice, to make representations on my behalf and to raise a number of concerns I have about the way the case is to be handled.

“We are still awaiting a reply to that formal approach. I don’t want to say anything that could affect the proceedings. I’m prepared to wait and see what happens.”

James Bulger’s father speaks:

Robin Makin, the solicitor for James Bulger’s father, Ralph, sharply criticised the ministry of justice for its handling of the case since Venables’s recall.

“We consider that the way this has been handled since news of Jon Venables being recalled to custody has been a disaster. The public authorities ought to behave quite differently and in due course further details are likely to emerge of the mistakes that were made. Ineptitude and incompetence spring to mind,” he said.

Venables will answer for his alleged crimes at the Old Bailey in July. The case against him goes, as told by Gavin Millar QC, prosecuting:

He was downloading images on to his own computer. That is the basis of the case relating to the 57 photos. The distribution relates to the downloading of photographs using software that might have made them available to others if they knew the correct search term and passwords for a finite period.”

The story so far

Adding:

“There is no evidence to suggest that anyone did actually acquire the images through this route.”

The case goes on:

Jon Venables: It’s Worse Than That – He’s Fat

REMEMBER when Jon Venables was big news – you know, the child killer? It was the run up to the election (remember that?) and the Government wanted to look better than inept? A look around for news throw up little:

The Sun says Venables is getting fat.

CHUBBY Jon Venables has been put on a low-fat diet and exercise regime by jail chiefs. James Bulger’s murderer, 27, has gorged on treats and shunned exercise since being recalled to jail in March over child porn allegations.

Paedo? Okay. Child killer? Yes. But get fat and you will shunned by decent society.

James Bulger Killer Jon Venables On Tabloid Murder Watch

JON Venables news round-up time, readers. Matthew Acton tells NoTW readers, beneath the headline: “Bulger Killer Venables on death watch”:

Child killer Jon Venables has been given TWO burly prison bodyguards to keep him safe from murderous attacks by vengeful lags.

James Bulger Case in pictures

Hold on a mo’. Venables is under guard from 20 crack screws and in isolation. And the armed cops? In the super-max jail? Now, it’s just two. This sounds more akin to Murder Watch than suicide watch?

And at night a guard is assigned to watch him in his cell via CCTV – in cases he tries to kill himself.

This would be the guard that missed Venables secreting a load of tablets in his “den”?

Jon Venables’ Co-codamol Suicide Plot

JAMES Bulger killer Jon Venables’ prison cell continues to occupy the tabloids as today we learn of “SUICIDE PILLS” in the “den”. Venabels had 20 “super-strong” co-codamol pills in his bed. These were given to him by prison medics. He had pretended to take them.

Is co-codamol deadly?

Doctors warn that taking too many in too short a time could be fatal.

Well, yes.

Go on, scream readers. Take ‘em. Politicians agree. This is the way out of the mess the Government fed with indecision and a fudge.

The Mirror online bills this as the “SUICIDE FEAR”.

You can feel the fear that Venables will take his own life as the Mirror screams:

“A luxury cell with huge TV, guitar, showers, hi-fi and Nintendo.”

And in case you aren’t sure what to make of it, the Mirror tells you:

“…a move that is bound to infuriate the family of James Bulger, the toddler he and Robert Thompson murdered in 1993 when they were 10.”

No word from them. Yet…

James Bulger: Jon Venables Cackles And Waits For A Conclusion

MORE news on Jon Venables, one of the James Bulger’s killer, who we learn has gone mad in jail. Well, not raving mad. Venables is mad for Harry Potter.

Jon Venables is, says the Sun, “hooked” on the Satanic, paedo-serving boy wizard.

James Bulger’s murderer, 27, has devoured FOUR of the boy wizard novels since being recalled to jail last month.

And this is bad news:

And it has landed him in trouble – after he was fined by bosses for failing to return the books on time.

James Bulger Case in pictures

Jon Venables reads bestsellers. As ever, when the press labels a killer a monster and evil, is the essentially human things are can be the most unsettling. An adult reading a child’s book could be creepy, were it not for the fact that hundreds of thousands of adults have already done so.

James Bulger: Jon Venables Guitar Lessons And An Oasis Wonderwall

JON Venables has a “cushy number”. So says the Sun, which focuses on one of Jamie Bulger’s two killers. Turns out that Venables is getting guitar lessons in jail. And – shock of shocks – he’s not paying for them himself. You’re paying for them. Well, you are if you pay taxes.

Jon Venables Seduces Women On Facebook

MORE on one of James Bulger’s killers, Jon Venables, and news of the tautological in the News of The World that “EVIL Jon Venables‘” had a “shocking haul of child porn”. Also, that he was using his real name to try to score a date via the internet.

The story goes that Venables came to the attention of police when he started using his real name on social networking sites, “like Facebook”.

Jon Venables: After The Heated Debate The Cool Dissemble

JON Venables, one of James Bulger’s killers, is awaiting the result of the Parole Board to discover his fate. Will he released on license or will he be charged with whatever offence led to his re-incarceration?

The Sun leads with news that Venables will spend at least a year in jail even if he is not convicted of possessing child pornography. The Parole Board will listen to all sides, including the views of James Bulger’s parents, Ralph Bulger and Denise Fergus, eventually.

The Mirror says Venables faces six months inside. The Telegraph says “many months“.

Jon Venables And Child A, The 6-Year-Old Girl Abused By 23 Classmates

JON Venables: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at one of the killer’s of two-year-old James Bulger in the new, featuring Child A,  girl sexually abused for six months by 23 classmates.

The Telegraph brings news of Child A, a girl of six who “suffered months of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of 23 classmates”. Six months, says the story. And, yes, 23 classmates.

Nigel Bunyan has more:

Child A was stripped on a daily basis and routinely assaulted by children of her own age.

But nothing could be done because of “a combination of the children’s young ages and a lack of firm evidence”.

James Bulger Case in pictures

No evidence of a child stripped and sexually abused by 23 other children on a daily basis? Not one shred of evidence? A review of child A’s case has been published and the key finding is that she “undoubtedly” the victim of sexual abuse.

Jon Venables’ Play Pen Nicked From Screws

FIRST there was the beasting of James Bulger’s joint child killer Jon Venables.

Now comes the desperate search for illustration of a weak yarn.

The Sun today screams of “pampering” and “luxury” as hard done to prison officers are told to give up a staff-room to the recalled from life-licence murderer of two-year-old James Bulger.

James Bulger Case in pictures

There is horror as The Sun says the man (now in jail under the new name given to him as a life-long anonymity order) had a 36″ screen television and proceeds to shows us an (alleged) flat screen telly.

(Ever willing to join in the madness, Anorak today gives you a tv similar to the tv illustrated by The Sun.)

Keeping the story simmering on the back burner is a fine tabloid art but once again the sources are quoted and the implication is that 27-year-old Venables continues to irritate.

Ian Huntley, Jon Venables, Roy Whiting In ‘Hot Jam’ Murder Plot: In Pictures

CHILD killers Ian Huntley, Jon Venables and Ray Whiting are in the news. Whiting killed Sarah Payne. Huntley killed Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. Venables killed James Bulger. And  here’s a link…

Yesterday the Star told readers that “lags have vowed to gouge out the eyes” of Whiting.

In pictures: The Soham Case & Investigation

A search of Whiting’s cell turned up newspaper cuttings about Sarah and “other young girls”. A prison source offers:

“They reckon is someone gouges out his eyeballs, he won’t be able to look at any more pictures.”

They can’t be certain. But they reckon…

This echoes the news that prisoners had placed a bounty on the head of Shannon Matthews’ mum, Karen Matthews. The Sun told us:

The reward for beating up Meehan is, reportedly, ten ounces of “prison baccy – worth about £8.”

James Bulger Case in pictures

The Star trumped that:

SHANNON Matthews’ mum was banged up on a prison’s isolation wing last night after lags put a bounty on her head – of 10 cigarettes. The promise of the Lambert & Butler fags was enough to have most of the 442 queuing to attack Karen Matthews.

Crazy Media Beasts ‘Evil’ Jon Venables

THE tabloid beasting of child killer Jon Venables, one of James Bulger’s two killers, continues. Today’s News of the World says the 27-year-old had to be restrained after going “crazy” in his jail cell last Tuesday.

James Bulger Case in pictures

That restraint took four prison officers it is claimed.

The time-line would put the officers’ (alleged) very close and personal hold-down action a full 24 hours before the NoTW’s sister paper The Sun had the recalled from life-licence joint killer of James Bulger being removed from jailed by armed police. In that version he was a ‘monster’.

James Bulger: Jon Venables Becomes The Prejudiced Media’s Evil Jon

The Sun’s banner headline today brands Jon Venables as “Evil”

What is not clear is why Jon Venables, 27, who who ten-years-old when in 1993 he killed two-year-old James Bulger along with his pal Robert Thompson, also ten, is particularly worthy of being evil today.

In Pictures: Inside James Bulger Killer Jon Venables’ Prison Cell

Even at the height of the grief and hysteria (yes. a lot of it was) over the dreadful murder,
Venables was regarded as the “lesser” of the two children involved.

James Bulger Case in pictures

Yesterday The Sun said the recalled from life licence Venables was whisked from a high security prison unit by (said to be) armed policeman who wanted to question him.

A day later:

“JAMES Bulger killer Jon Venables was back in his jail cell last night after being questioned by cops for 24 hours.

“They grilled him about child porn allegations before returning him to his high security prison at around 6am.”

Once Again Deep Throat whispers in a Sun ear:

“A source confirmed: “Venables is back behind bars. He was away from the prison for a whole 24 hours.

“He was brought back by the same armed team who took him away. He looked very tired and has stayed in his cell ever since.”

Venables is in an adult prison for the first time and had been recalled from life-licence for, as yet, unspecified reasons.

The Justice secretary Jack Straw has described the reason as “serious” but no more.

The Sun indicates it knows all and says:

“Child porn carries a term of up to ten years but, if convicted, Venables could face life for breaching his licence terms.”

Jon Venables the man on the way to becoming as hated as……………….

In Pictures: Inside James Bulger Killer Jon Venables’ Prison Cell

TODAY’S edition of The Sun neatly converts James Bulger’s  ten-year-old child-killer Jon Venables into a 27-year-old monster in three sentences. And this the child killer Venables’ trial brief Laurence Lee says could have been set free within two weeks had it not been for media hysteria.

The front-page headline screams:

“ARMED COPS GRAB BULGER KILLER.”

The is blur of adjectives:

“ARMED cops gave James Bulger killer Jon Venables just five minutes to pack before hauling him away for questioning yesterday.

He gets to pack?

“The monster was seized in a dawn swoop as he lay in his prison bed.”

A raid on man in a super-max prison cell? A man being guarded by 20 crack wardens?  Where was he going to run to?

“Venables, 27, faces a fresh grilling over child porn allegations that saw him recalled to jail this month.”

He’s in jail. Why wold you need guns to grill him? You just open the door…

James Bulger Case in pictures

The imagery is all there. We know from various informed sources the recalled from life-licence Venables is alternatively,

* “arrogant”
* “tough talking”
* “bragging”
* “stressed”

* Scared

Jon Venables’ Lawyer Laurence Lee Says Government Has Created Hysteria And Damaged Justice

JON Venables’ solicitor for his 1993 trial for the murder of two-year-old James Bulger in Bootle, Merseyside, one Laurence Lee, says the Government’s handling of the recall from life-licence of the now 27-year-old Venables was so bad it has led to “led to hysteria and speculation, which is not good for the cause of justice.”

James Bulger Case in pictures

That scoop comes from the Law Society Gazette the august sometimes very staid trade magazine for the legally-minded. The LSG is not known for breaking hard news but it stole the lead on the nationals yesterday.

Lee describes how is was catapulted into the limelight when in 1993:

“The trial was one of the highest-profile cases any lawyer could be called upon to handle. I just happened to pick up the telephone in the magistrates’ court and it was a desk sergeant looking for an available duty solicitor.”

“Venables, who was 10 at the time, was found guilty of the murder along with another boy of the same age, Robert Thompson. Venables was released from prison on licence in 2001, but is now back behind bars after the Ministry of Justice claimed he had breached his probation terms. He has a new identity and his whereabouts are unknown.”

Lee warns “every prison in the country will be looking round to see whether or not there’s a 27-year-old who looks a little bit like that boy“.
