Liverpool: Garth Crooks says 40-goals-a-season Suarez and Sturridge can be new Owen and Heskey

GARTH Crooks is Anorak’s favourite BBC football pundit. His eagerness to appear knowing in the face of glaring knowledge gaps, his earnest pursuit of the most trite opinion, and the reverence with which he treats his own opinions, holding his hands together in prayer as he delivers a verdict on Theo Walcott’s crossing in a tone Solomon would have considered ‘a bit much’. Last week, Crooks looked at Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, the Liverpool strikers. Crooks says Sturridge “possesses the potential to create a partnership with Suarez capable of 40 goals a season. Anfield has not seen anything like that since Keegan and John Toshack or Dalglish and Ian Rush and we all know what that led to.”

Lance Armstong is Liverpool’s Luis Suarez but not Gareth Bale nor any other noble Briton

BILL Leckie says Liverpool’s Luis Suarez “is Armstrong MKII”. That’s Lance Armstrong, the fabulously talented cyclist who used illegal drugs to become a living legend.

Leckie writes:

THERE’S a huge gap in downright criminality between divers in football and dopers in cycling.

Yep. One is testing the referee. You get booked for diving. The other was part of a sophisticated plot to dupe the spectators and those cyclists not doping. Armstrong attempted to destroy the reputations of anyone who called him a cheat, successfully suing them and winning considerable damages.

But the intent in their actions is the same — to win by any means possible no matter how it screws over their fellow pros.

What they said about Luis Suarez before he admitted to diving

IS Liverpool’s charmless and talented Luis Suraez a cheat? Says Luis Saurez:

“I was accused of falling inside the box in a match and it’s true I did it that time, because we were drawing against Stoke at home and we needed anything to win it. But after that everybody jumped up to talk – the Stoke coach and the Everton coach … I understood that the name Suarez sells newspapers…

“The media make up a lot of things about me because they want to sell papers. I say to the media: You should talk more about football, not about other stuff.

Liverpool’s cheating Luis Suarez inspired by Team GB’s win-at-all-costs dive

THE papers are pretty unanimous: Luis Suarez is a cheat. The Liverpool striker is cheat who robbed “plucky” Mansfield Town of FA Cup glory in the third round, ripping the romance of the FA Cup to smithereens. “Caught red-handed,” said the Times. “You cheat!” thundered the Sun.Suarez handball KO’s Brave Stags.” But it’s not only foreign Suarez the papers hate. It’s football.

Not so long ago, Team GB were scooping Olympic medals in the Velodrome. In one race, the lads took men’s team sprint at London 2012. The Telegraph cheered:

Sir Chris Hoy and Great Britain’s team sprint squad claimed a glorious gold medal record in the men’s final tonight, breaking the world record in both the semi-final and then again in the final when they defeated France, posting an almost unbelievable time of 42.600sec.

Of course Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is a cheat

IS Luis Suarez, Liverpool’s unlovely striker, a cheat? Let’s see what the experts say of the man who used a hand to set up his side’s crucial second goal against Mansfield Town in the FA Cup. Oh, the romance. The rules seem pretty obvious:

In Fifa’s Laws of the Game 2005, Law 12:

… a free-kick or penalty will be awarded if a player “handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)”.

A player is cautioned and shown the yellow card if he commits any of the following seven offences: • unsporting behaviour

What say the experts?

Premier League referee David Elleray:

“Referees look at two specifics – did the hand or arm go towards the ball or in a manner which would block the ball, or is the hand in a position where it would not normally be? The challenging decisions are if the defending player spreads their arms to make themselves bigger. If the ball hits the arm then the referee must decide whether this action was to deliberately block the ball or whether the player has raised their arms to protect themselves – especially if the ball is hit at speed.”

Forgetting when Liverpool’s Djibril Cissé broke his leg

IN the Daily Mail. Michael Walker has football facts about ambulatory comic strip:

Sunday’s other Premier League game is QPR-Liverpool. It is over eight years since Djibril Cisse cost £14m when he moved to Anfield.  His transfer was not considered a success, particularly when he went from September 25th to May 15th in his first season without scoring.

Electrocuted dog used wee to detect Liverpool cannabis factory

TO Liverpool, where a dog taking a leak has been electrocuted on a live metal shutter. The Jack Russell was outside the former Oluyole restaurant in Prescot Road, Fairfield. The emergency services were called. Firemen cut their way into the premises. Inside they found 55 cannabis plants in an upstairs flat. Live wires dangled from the flat, conducted along the metal shutter.

It’s a tragic event.

Merseyside police detective inspector Julie Milburn then wades in:

“This incident shows the dangers of cannabis farms and highlights the misconception that cannabis and the growth of the drug is harmless.”

Has Brendan Rodgers lost the plot at Liverpool?

SO. Brendan Rodgers Liverpool lose 1-0 to the mighty Anzhi Makhackkala in Moscow. Rodgers picked a largely young, inexperienced side. Would the club’s star names have fared better?

Says Rodgers:

“I don’t think I should have brought the likes of Gerrard, not at all…We just got punished for one mistake, otherwise the players who were here did fantastically well, and it wouldn’t have mattered if those other players were here.”

Why don’t Liverpool’s youngsters ask Luis Suarez for advice?

UNLOVELY Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is talking to Liverpool’s official website about the club’s investment in youth:

The forward explained that the first-team players in the dressing room will make themselves available to advise their younger teammates, although they have yet to approach him. “Not really, maybe it’s because I don’t speak English or something.”

Yeah. Maybe.

Post-Hillsborough Sun overlooks Liverpool idiots to focus on sales

THE new Scouse-friendly Sun’s report on the Liverpool v Manchester United match is illuminating. The game was the first Liverpool home match since the official report proved the police had lied over Hillsborough, forcing the Sun to apologise for its willing and compliant broadcast of those lies.

Whereas the Daily Mail led with “Halsey suffers sick abuse”, news that the match’s referee has been targeted by footy fans hoping he and his wife die of cancer (he is surived one brush with the dread disease; she has been diagnosed with it), the Sun leads with a “VICTORY FOR FOOTBALL”.

Whereas other papers looked at the few numbskulls who stirred up old hatreds –

“Much to warm the heart, but idiots ensured this was not a unifying event” – The Times.

“No escape: Anfield day of reconciliation marred by fans’ taunts” – The Daily Telegraph.

“Defeat and chants tarnish a celebration of justice”- The Guardian.

In photos: Liverpool v Manchester United – the post-Hillsborough respectful grudge match

LIVERPOOL host Manchester United in the first match between the pair since the State admitted that its had fitted up the 96 who died. Will the fans chant about the death at Hillsborough and the Munich air disaster, when 23 people were killed – including half the United team – using them as the ultimate weapon to hurt? We football fans like our humour to have edge and bite. But chants about these two mass loses of human life are not funny

The game ended with a 2-1 win for United.

Sky says justice for the 96 is as good as an Everton goal

QUOTE of the day that outs football in perspective was supplied by Sky TV’s Alan Parry, who saluted Everton’s second goal, that gave them a 2-1 lead in match that would finish 2-2, with the words:

“For the second time in a week, justice is done on Merseyside.”

96 Liverpool fans cleared of any blame in their own deaths… A Premier League goal…

Fergie wants end to United and Liverpool’s tasteless chants

THE relationship between Manchester United and Liverpool has always been a tricky one. Like sparring, feuding brothers, a deep rooted respect is often translated to burst noses and enough bickering to make even the pettiest human cry.

Over the years, both sides of this near-derby has seen some pretty unsavoury words shared. Of course, it makes for a fascinating spectacle, but Sir Alex Ferguson has just about had enough of it and wants the tasteless chanting that has marred matches between the two, to stop.

Kelvin Mackenzie finally apologises for the Sun’s Hillsborough lies – again

THE 96 Liverpool fans who died at Hillsborough in 1989 had their names besmirched by the police and the media. Finally, 23 years later, Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie has apologised for the Sun‘s coverage.

In the face of massive evidence that the police lied to protect themselves and people died who could have been saved, Mackenzie apologises.

We’ve been her before. In 2007, MacKenzie said on BBC1’s Question Time that he had only apologised for reporting as “TRUTH” the lie that Liverpool fans had been masters of their own fate – “Some fans picked the pockets of victims. Some fans urinated on brave cops” –  because Rupert Murdoch had told him to.

Proof that police changed evidence to implicate Liverpool fans in Hillsborough disaster

WILL the family and loved ones of the 96 Liverpool FC fans who died as a result of events on 15 April, 1989, know the truth? No, not the Sun’s version of “THE TRUTH”. This is the truth shorn of police, government and media lies. Today, the Hillsborough Independent Panel releases its final report into the horror.

Hillsborough inquest coroner, Stefan Popper, said the dead died from “traumatic asphyxiation”. He said 94 people died on the day before 3:15. (Two people died later in hospital.) Only, sources say at least one, Kevin Williams, might have been breathing after 3:15.  His mother, Anne Williams, claims Kevin was still alive at 16:00.

We will now see the medical records. Could nothing have been done for the dead after Popper’s “cut-off” time of 3:15? It’s hard to believe that’s the case, especially when so many who were injured recovered.

Brendan Rogers is a nutcase, says Liverpool’s Brendan Rogers

IS ANDY Carroll leaving Liverpool? Brendan Rogers, Liverpool’s new Messiah, has news:

“I need a minimum of three strikers. Once the window shuts, that is it until January. I have got Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini and Andy Carroll. I would need to be a nutcase to even consider letting Andy Carroll go at this moment” – Brendan Rodgers, August 23.

Liverpool’s Daniel Agger is worth £90m (Chris Hoy might be cheaper than Van Persie)

ANYONE missing the Premier League? No. Thought not. All those tossers like John Terry and his ilk, demanding respect and giving none clash horribly with the grace, drive and charisma of the Olympic athletes. While we wait for athletics to replace football – a sport none of the Home Nations are much good at – as the national sprot, let’s see what football-related bollocks the papers are talking about. Eyes turn to Daniel Agger, a decent-but-uninspiring defender currently playing at Liverpool. News is that Manchester City want to buy him. But how much is he worth?

“Manchester City are continuing to press for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger. The defender, 27, is valued close to £30million” Daily Mail

“Manchester City have been told they have to pay a club-record fee for a defender – more than £22 million – if they are to convince Liverpool to part company with Daniel Agger” – The Times

“Liverpool have told Manchester City they can have Daniel Agger… but he’ll cost them! The Reds have slapped a £20million price-tag on the Denmark defender, and will refuse to do business until the Premier League’s moneybags champions agree to pay that much” The Daily Mirror

“Manchester City have upped their bid for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger to £18m” – MEN

Liverpool goes mad for pigeon meat

LIVERPOOL council says “pigeon feeding was often undertaken by people with mental health needs”. The council stops short of saying if pigeon feeding should be available on the NHS. The council does, however, refer to a survey that proves its statement, although the data cannot be located.

Liverpool adds that scraping pigeon poo from pavements and buildings costs £160,000 a year. As such, pigeon feeders as discouraged from climbing atop the Liver building to satisfy their sick urges.

Alan Hansen remembers to forget Liverpool and that Arsenal curse

ALAN Hansen earns £40,000 a week to tell Match of the Day viewers that Arsenal can’t defend and Manchester United are a decent bet for the title whilst using a graphics package to track players about to score. Last Sunday night, we tuned in to see Manchester City clinch the Premier League title in a spellbinding thriller. The Premier League is not the best in the world (Italy is). It is not the most skilful (Spain). It is not the most watched (Germany). But it is the most exciting. City’s win was epic. What the show’s host, Gary Lineker, wanted to know was where City’s victory stood in history.

Gary Lineker asked Hansen: “Have you ever, in your life, seen anything like that?”

Hansen replied: “No.”

No? Never?

Liverpool beat Everton to reach FA Cup final – photos

LIVERPOOL beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup semi-final. Lovely Luis Suarez scored one Andy Carroll got the winner. Earlier in the week, Liverpool sacked Damien Comolli, the former Spurs scout who agreed that £35 million fee with Newcastle United for Carroll. Also, which idiots at the over-represented FA decide to stage an all-Merseyside semi-final at Wembley on a Saturday lunchtime?  Everton and Liverpool were given 63,456 tickets for their fans. The rest of the 90,000 seats are occupied by sponsors, Club Wembley suits and corporations. If Comolli’s looking for a new job the FA might be a safe bet…

Alan Davies upsets murderous Liverpool fans with Hillsborough insult

ARSENAL fan and jobbing BBC TV comedy show panelist Alan Davies has had his £1000 donation to the Official Hillsborough Justice Campaign rejected. Davies created upset when he questioned Liverpool’s refusal to play on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, when 96 fans died – and police and media colluded to defame them.

Liverpool’s decision means that Chelsea have only two full days to recover from their FA Cup semi-final with Tottenham before their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Liverpool Council makes disabled walk to 13th floor assessment office

LIVERPOOL city council thought it a good idea for disabled motorists to undergo medical examinations for parking permit blue badges on the 13th level of a car park. To further test the authenticity of claims, the lift (buttons: ‘calm down’ and ‘eh up lad’) at the Mount Pleasant car park stops on the 11th floor.

A disabled driver complains that “a set of stairs has to be negotiated before emerging at the correct level and having done this there is a long walk for someone of limited ability”.

Should those who make it be denied the badge? Or should the badges be reserved to those who never reach the 13th floor?
