Patrice Evra says Manchester United’s never lost to Barcelona in the 2009 and 2011 Champions’ League finals

WE’RE all for up-beat, positive thinking. And so too is Partrice Evra, the Manchester United defender. In readiness for his side’s Champions’ League match against Real Madrid, Evra tells media:

“I’ve been waiting for a big European tie like this for a long time and it’s probably the biggest European game since Barcelona in 2008.”

Manchester United website praises Tom Cleveley for Man City ‘keeper Joe Hart’s double save

FOOTBALL clubs love saluting their heroes on international duty. The Sun and Mail gave Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley a 6 out of 10. But on the Manchester United website, Cleverly was a vital performer in England’s 2-1 win over Brazil:

The Manchester United Official Website trills:

Ronaldinho’s spot-kick was saved by Joe Hart, who also stopped the rebound and Cleverley dived in to save a certain goal and concede a corner by thwarting Neymar.

Rio Ferdinand reveals why Alex Ferguson bought Robin Van Persie

LAST year Robin Van Persie was the Premier League’s top scorer. The then Arsenal captain’s 29 league goals lifted his side from mediocrity to Champions’ League qualifiers. The brilliant Dutchman won the PFA and FWA player of the year gongs.

So. Why did Manchester United buy him? United captain Rio Ferdinand has an thought:

The manager saw something in him…

Manchester United install tanning booth for players

MANCHESTER United aren’t going to help football’s softy, preening image after they installed a tanning booth at their training ground.

Now, of course, they’ll argue that they’ve installed a ‘Vitamin D machine’ at their Carrington training facility, and Manchester being the Rainy City, is sorely lacking in sunlight. However, we all know that this machine has been installed because professional footballers are all massively vain, upright swine… it has nothing to do with healthy skin and bones.

ESPN soccer fail: Manchester City fans calls United rival a ‘right Moppet’

BEFORE the Manchester City v Manchester United Premier League match kicked off, American broadcaster ESPN attempted to explain to American viewers what it means to support the clubs. Overlooking the obvious error – City’s biggest fans are based in the Middle East; United’s fans mostly live in London – we see that “Muppet” has been transcribe as “Moppet”. Muppet means a brainless, cloth-eared toy with a hand working your arse; Moppet means a cutesy young child.

Proof: Referees favour Manchester United giving them more time to score

YOU on Fergie Time? That’s the time zone operated by Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United boss who has turned Old Trafford into a separate time zone. If United are losing, referees give them an extra minute to score:

Manchester United mercenary Robin Van Persie parks in disabled bay for two days

FOOTBALLERS are dreadful aren’t they? They get paid all that money and for what? To roll around on the floor pretending to be in agony while overweight people tell them that they’re rubbish at their job. It really is astonishing. Then they go and kiss their badges before buggering off to the next better offer. Dreadful.

And now, to cap it all off, they probably hate people with disabilities.

Chelsea fan Gavin Kirkham might not be exercising logic

THE Daily Mail is aghast and agog. Jonathan McEvoy can’t get his head around the sight of a white Chelsea fan apparently pretending he’s a monkey. The Chelsea fan seemingly scratching his armpits as watches his team take on Manchester United is called Gavin Kirkham. In allegedly incriminating photo, United’s Danny Wellbeck (black) can be seen in the foreground. It doesn’t look good. But it’s not proof of anything. Still, here’s McEvoy:

There appears to be no uniform or even logical standpoint among Chelsea fans. Ruud Gullit, as long ago as 1996, was the first black manager in the Premier League; Didier Drogba was one of the icons of the Abramovich era; the current assistant manager, Eddie Newton, and technical director, Michael Emenalo, are both black. Yet the yob thought to be doing the monkey routine allegedly taunts an opposition player on the basis of his skin colour. The club are owned by a Jew and their chairman, Bruce Buck, is a Jew. Yet, as recently as a week ago last Saturday, Chelsea fans made their customary hissing noises at the Tottenham fans, imitating the gas chambers of the Holocaust.

‘CLATTENBURG – REFEREE – LEADER- LEGEND- Man United fans mock Chelsea

“CLATTENBURG – REFEREE – LEADER- LEGEND.” So declares the banner unfurled by Manchester United fans at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. This might well be the world’s second best banner. The winner was unveiled at the same match.

It’s ok to laugh at Chelsea, who conducted an investigation into the allegation that referee Mark Clattenburg called Blues’ midfielder John Obi Mikel a “monkey” after going public.

Chelsea captain John Terry got a four match-ban and an FA Bentley-sized fine for racially abusing QPR’s Anton Ferdinand – Westminster Magistrates’ Court said Terry was not guilty of the same. Clattenburg has already been suspended from refereeing Premier League matches. His entire career is in jeopardy:

‘Chelsea – standing up to racism since Sunday’ (Manchester United fans unveil world’s best banner)

CHELSEA v Manchester United in the Capital Cup. No John Terry. The Chelsea captain is banned for using racist words on the pitch. Referee Mark Clattenburg has been relieved of his duties while police and the FA investigate the allegation that he racially abused two Chelsea players during the side’s Premier League match last Sunday. Manchester United fans note the irony:

Post-Hillsborough Sun overlooks Liverpool idiots to focus on sales

THE new Scouse-friendly Sun’s report on the Liverpool v Manchester United match is illuminating. The game was the first Liverpool home match since the official report proved the police had lied over Hillsborough, forcing the Sun to apologise for its willing and compliant broadcast of those lies.

Whereas the Daily Mail led with “Halsey suffers sick abuse”, news that the match’s referee has been targeted by footy fans hoping he and his wife die of cancer (he is surived one brush with the dread disease; she has been diagnosed with it), the Sun leads with a “VICTORY FOR FOOTBALL”.

Whereas other papers looked at the few numbskulls who stirred up old hatreds –

“Much to warm the heart, but idiots ensured this was not a unifying event” – The Times.

“No escape: Anfield day of reconciliation marred by fans’ taunts” – The Daily Telegraph.

“Defeat and chants tarnish a celebration of justice”- The Guardian.

Fergie wants end to United and Liverpool’s tasteless chants

THE relationship between Manchester United and Liverpool has always been a tricky one. Like sparring, feuding brothers, a deep rooted respect is often translated to burst noses and enough bickering to make even the pettiest human cry.

Over the years, both sides of this near-derby has seen some pretty unsavoury words shared. Of course, it makes for a fascinating spectacle, but Sir Alex Ferguson has just about had enough of it and wants the tasteless chanting that has marred matches between the two, to stop.

Cristiano Ronaldo won’t celebrate because he’s sad

REMEMBER when Cristiano Ronaldo was at Manchester United and compared himself to a ‘slave’ because he wanted to go to Real Madrid, where he ended up anyway? That was fun wasn’t it? Almost as fun as the fact ABSOLUTELY NO-ONE ever mentions the fact he somehow acquired a son (Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, naturally) without seeming to shag anyone.

Manchester United London Supporters Group salute Robin Van Persie: Liverpool fans might laugh

IS this a spoof produced by Liverpool fans to mock Manchester United? We bring you an announcement from the Manchester United London Supporters Group on the arrival of former Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie:

Manchester United London Supporters Club (MUFC London) warmly welcomes the signing of Robin Van Persie. The arrival of such a profile player at Old Trafford is a much needed boost for what has been a depressing summer for the clubs finances….

MUFC London believe a price closer to £15m would have been a better deal for our club considering Van Persie has only one year remaining. But understand the current market conditions and aggressive competition for talent with the spending power of Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris St Germain…

Concerns are over Van Persie’s long term fitness. His fitness record at Arsenal is well documented. Last season represented his first full season free of injury since his arrival from Feyenoord in 2004.

Another slight concern is that he did not score more than 11 goals in his first 6 seasons at Arsenal. Manchester United is a different prospect for Van Persie. Our club is a breeding ground for improvement. Players that come to our club step up to perform consistently at a world class level.

This will be expected of Van Persie. The arrival of Van Persie is a much needed marquee signing for our club. It is as much to placate the fans as it is for the squad, but having the Premier Leagues top to scorers last season leading the attack will be something to behold.

For the Gooners: Robin Van Persie’s career at Arsenal in photos

ROBIN Van Persie has quit Arsenal for the greenback pastures of Manchester United. Arsenal fans may miss RVP. The treatment room will certainly be less busy. His time at Arsenal wasn’t all about great goals. In fact, aside from last season, the injury-prone striker often struggled to get going:

Glazer’s continue to milk the Manchester United cash cow with New York IPO

MANCHESTER United fans know their club is the biggest in England. So. Why don’t United buy the biggest and best names for the most money? The ruling Glazer family intend to list Manchester United on the New York Stock Exchange. The floatation would raise funds to reduce the club’s £423m debt. The interest alone costs £45m a year. The Glazers want to raise a maximum of $100 million.

They make an announcement:

“Our indebtedness could adversely affect our financial health and competitive position…Our indebtedness increases the risk that we may be unable to generate cash sufficient to pay amounts due in respect of our indebtedness. It could also have effects on our business.”

The football teams that changed their kits and won and lost their identities

ANORAK presents a history of football club shirt changes, featuring: Cardiff City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Leeds United, Millwall, Juventus, Coventry City and Crystal Palace…

AMID all the Euro hype, one piece of football news has largely slipped under the radar: Cardiff City FC have confirmed what many suspected – that they will now play in red, because the colour is more appealing to the club’s Malaysian owners than the traditional blue strip.

Alex Ferguson bemoans changing the FA Cup his Manchester United once ignored

MANCHESTER United manger Sir Alex Ferguson is upset that Chelsea’s victory in the FA Cup final over Liverpool was moved to a 5:15 kick off rather than the usual 1500. (Others may bemoan the fact that the (yikes!) Budweiser FA Cup that used to mark the end of the English domestic football season is now shoe-horned between Premier League matches.

Says Ferguson:

“It’s absolutely ridiculous. They have changed the most prestigious cup competition in the world just to get an audience.”

‘It’s a goal!’ (Or is it?) – when the referee scores and misses a sitter

IT’S a goal or is it?

Wembley 15 April 2012

John Terry (lying down) helps block the ball on the line to prevent Chelsea from scoring a second goal in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Spurs.

But on this occasion all was well for Chelsea’s skipper.

Alex Ferguson is wrong – It’s Arsenal who suffer most from bad decisions

MANCHESTER United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester City’s Patrick Vieira is wrong and United are not helped by favouritism from referees. Says he:

“It evens itself out over a season and that will never change. You get breaks here and there. Every club gets good breaks, bad breaks.”

Really? The website Debatable Decisions looks at “The Real Premier League Table” – “It’s calculated using the decisions that directly affect goals e.g. goals ruled out for offside, corners incorrectly given that lead to goals, whether or not the ball has crossed the line, penalties etc.”

Man United would still be top of the table with an increase on their current 73 points to 76 points. Man City would be on 71, up one from 70. Third-placed Arsenal would be on 62 points, a rise of fours points on the actual Premier League table. Spurs would be fifth and Chelsea fourth.

The ‘real’ bottom three would be Bolton, Wolves and QPR and not, as is now, QPR, Wigan and Wolves.
