Manchester United fan serves up epic wedding toast after marrying into Manchester City supporting family (video)
HERE’S a little corker that’s doing the viral rounds today of a Manchester United-supporting groom, having set up what his wedding guests are expecting to be an emotional tribute to his late father, delivers a bloody brilliant swerve punchline, much to the delight (along with some good-natured booing) of the family full of Manchester City fans he’d literally just married into…
The groom has since confirmed via his Twitter account that his brilliant bait-and-switch joke was indeed a tribute to his late dad, who himself was also a rabid United fan.

Daily Mirror accuses Manchester United of playing like ‘powderpuff’ gays against Manchester City
DAILY Mirror betting tipster Derek McGovern can’t get enough of The Village People, the band that sang about sodomy in the showers:
What I’m saying is that, with Thelikesof Basel and Otelul Galati joining United in the easiest group since The Village People, three clean sheets on the road for Fergie’s men is almost a done deal.
Easiest on the ear? On the clean sheets?
A survey of people pulled over by the rozzers have found the three worst things to say are:
1. Aren’t you the guy from the Village People?

Non-dom Daily Mail laments unpatriotic Manchester City and says Manchester United are as bad as England
NEIL Ashton writes in the Mail of Manchester City’s victory over Manchester United.
In years to come, the 166th Manchester derby could go down as the day English football died.
Why?
It’s by no means unique in this country, but City began this fixture without a single English outfield player. This was football at the highest level of the Barclays Premier League and the champions of England – with a core of six English players in the starting line-up – were picked off at will by overseas imports.
Good for City. Not so good for the England team.

Supporting Liverpool or Spurs makes you fatter than a Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal fan
DOES supporting Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal make you slimmer than supporting Liverpool or Spurs? A recent survey fond that Bassetlaw in Nottinghamshire has been named as the “fat capital of the UK”. The place has six times the national average of obesity-related hospital admissions.
Can that bulk be linked to support for the areas professional football clubs, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Mansfield Town? When they fail to win, as they often do, do the fans eat more?
A study makes a link between saturated fat consumption and your team’s results: fans eat 16 percent more fat after a defeat and nine perfect less after a win.

Manchester United: Moyes reveals new-feel team with same old faces
WHY didn’t Manchester United by a stella name this summer? The club’s only signing was Marouane Fellaini.
United’s director of communications Phil Townsend has written to the fans:
“The club has always backed the manager in the transfer market, as Sir Alex (Ferguson) has said on many occasions and it will continue to do so. The club has demonstrated its belief in, and commitment to, David Moyes through the award of a six-year contract. Allowing him to shape the future Manchester United team is a long-term project not an eight-week panic.”

Chelsea and Manchester United have lost a true pal in referee Mark Halsey
FORMER Premier League referee Mark Halsey is selling his life story in the Sun and a book, and working as a rules pundit on BT Sport. Given that refs are routinely called biased and some countries have had issues with officials being bribed, Halsey comes across as bit of a berk. If he had a personal relationship with Chelsea manager Joe Mourinho, as he said, did the manager pick players the ref admires or wants to meet? Will jokes that if “Halsey stays fit United can go the season unbeaten” be rooted in something more sinister than rival fans’ bitterness at a perceived injustice? If there is one thing we at Anorak dislike and distrust more than the official who brings you to book it is the official who wants to be your pal. Matt Dickinson is unimpressed with Halsey, writing in the Times:
It started, as perhaps these things do, with an innocent cup of tea some years ago. Mark Halsey arrived early at Stamford Bridge to officiate at a Chelsea game. José Mourinho invited him in for a chat. A few months later it had developed to full-blown hugging, with Mourinho embracing Halsey after the Community Shield. Halsey delighted in that squeeze and the whispered post-match compliment in his ear. …When Halsey’s wife, Michelle, was found to have myeloid leukaemia, the Portuguese paid out of his own pocket for Halsey and his family to stay at a five-star hotel in the Algarve. “Obviously,” Halsey said, “I wouldn’t have gone if he’d still been at Chelsea. But what can you say? He’s been an absolute inspiration.” How touching. Only a cynic could look at such a close friendship and think it brought into question both men’s professional judgment. Only a nasty sceptic could doubt a referee who thinks it appropriate to accept thousands of pounds’ worth of gifts.

Manchester United: Wayne Rooney shows off his nasty gash
MANCHESTER United’s Mr Loyal Wayne Rooney wants to show the world the awful cut he suffered in training last week. On his personal Facebook page, La Roon writes:

Transfer Balls: Mesut Ozil wants to join Manchester United but Arsenal get him
TRANSFER Balls: What are Arsenal up to? Well, news is that they are and are not buying Real Madrid’s stella German Mesut Ozil. Today’s reports:
The Guardian: “Mesut Ozil close to joining Arsenal in £46m deal from Real Madrid”
Evening Standard: “Arsenal on the brink of sealing £43m Mesut Ozil deal as playmaker undergoes medical”
Daily Star: “The Gunners are set to spend £42.5m on Mesut Ozil”
Daily Mail: “Arsenal are on the verge of a spectacular £40million transfer breakthrough after it emerged Mesut Ozil is having a medical in Munich ahead of completing a move to the Emirates.”
Sports Mole.com: “The German international is believed to be in advanced talks with Arsenal, following reports that Madrid have agreed a fee in the region of £36m with the North London outfit.”
What’s that in euros?
Managing Madrid.com: “Mesut Özil Passing Medical With Arsenal, 50M€ Deal Agreed”
IBTimes: “Arsenal have agreed a staggering (by Arsene Wenger’s standards) €47m fee for Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil.”
While those organs debate the exchange rate of euros to pounds, this paper says Ozil is staying put:
Irish Independent: “Man United not in for Mesut Ozil as Madrid star rejects Arsenal’s advances”
Maybe Ozil is heading to Manchester United?
Irish Indy: “Manchester United’s deadline-day recruitment drive will not include a pursuit of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.”
Pete O’Rourke @SkySportsPeteO: “Sky Sources: Manchester United have made contact with Mesut Ozil’s representatives.”
The BusyBabe: “Manchester United contact Mesut Ozil, player wants to join”
Daily Express: “The Gunners tabled a £42.5m bid for the Germany international last night, who has courted interest from Manchester United and PSG.”However, reports emerged this morning that United were not in the hunt for Ozil”

Transfer Balls: Manchester United pay £2m over the odds for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini
TRANSFER Balls: Is Marouane Fellaini heading to Manchester United from Everton?
The Sunday Times says United will get their man for £25m.
The Mirror has other news:
July 13: “The Belgian’s £23.5million buy-out clause expires on August 14 with the Toffees set to demand more than £30million for him after”
August 19: “Everton reject “derisory and insulting” £28million bid from Man United for Marouane Fellaini AND Leighton Baines”
August 25: “Manchester United to focus on Marouane Fellaini if double bid with Baines fails – United boss David Moyes will offer £35m for Toffees pair but focus on Belgian midfielder if he’s knocked back”
August 29: “Manchester United raise transfer offer for Everton’s Fellaini and Baines to £38m – New bid adds £8m to joint valuation of the midfielder and left-back as rival interest in Wigan’s McCarthy puts pressure on Martinez”
They offered £28m. Then added on £8m to make, erm, £38m.
Such is the maths…
Transfer Balls: Moyes says ‘disgusting’ Manchester United are trying to ‘destabilise’ Everton over Baines and Fellaini
TRANSFER Balls: How’s David Moyes getting on at Manchester United? Well, he’s after Everton’s best players. The BBC reports:
Everton have described Manchester United’s £28m joint bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines as “derisory and insulting”.
United have already seen a £12m bid of Baines rejected earlier in the summer. And Fellaini was reported to be worth in excess of £24m, once his buy-out clause expired (which it has, apparently).
“Those bids were rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting,” said director of communications Alan Myers.
Not too far back (August 2009), when Moyes was manager of Everton, Manchester City were after the club’s Joleon Lescott:
David Moyes’s irritation with Mark Hughes erupted again yesterday when he accused Manchester City of seeking to destabilise Everton with their “disgusting” pursuit of Joleon Lescott. He also insisted City’s handling of the transfer saga had destroyed any chance they had of signing the England international this summer…
Lescott signed for City, of course.
Moyes has complete control over transfer strategy at Everton and was therefore incensed…
“The dialogue has not taken place with Manchester City and Everton in the way that it is said to be. If it was, the dialogue would come to me,” he said. “There has been no contact with me. I’m the person here who makes the decisions. I’m in control of Everton Football Club. There has not been one call. It’s disappointing. We have got a player who we really value and we want to keep. We think the world of him and he can play two positions. We don’t want to lose him. Yet he is being continually put in a position like he is at this moment in time.
“The way it has been handled is disgusting and all it has done is disrupted our club.”
…
The Everton manager admits Lescott’s “head has been twisted” by the prospect of doubling his £40,000-a-week wage at City… Moyes is unhappy with the size of the bids from City and their timing..
Moyes believes City have refused to respect his stance on Lescott in the hope of destabilising Everton…
Such are the facts…

Moyes complains about imagined anti-Manchester United conspiracy
WHEN David Moyes was announced as the new Manchester United manager, many wondered if he’d be the perfect fit for the club. Thanks to his complaints about an imagined conspiracy against the Red Devils, it is clear that he’s a dream appointment.
Moyes has hit out at United’s opening fixtures, hinting that this is all a deliberate ploy by the Premier League to give them a tough opening.
In amongst their first five games, the champions have to play Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. Of course, they’d have to play them at some point anyway and they should quit whining, but there you go.

Transfer Balls – Wayne Rooney: Manchester United ease him in and out to Cheslea
TRANSFER Balls: Is Wayne Rooney leaving Manchester United for Chelsea?
It’s not just some spurious, summer lull tittle-tattle; Manchester United have confirmed that the club have both received and rejected another bid from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney, rumoured to be valued somewhere around £25million (plus add-ons).
A spokesman for United told Press Association Sport:
“A bid was received yesterday and immediately rejected. Our position remains that he is not for sale.”
So, if Rooney truly does want to try his hand elsewhere next season it looks as though he’s going to have to slap his nadgers on the table and hand in yet another transfer request – which would certainly make things interesting.

TRANSFER Balls: How’s the summer shaping up for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa and Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia?
These two are paired because if they head to the Premier League they will renew a relationship that made headlines last season. Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia earned a red card for a foul on Costa. He went on Twitter to claim:

Transfer balls: Everton sell Fellaini to Arsenal or Manchester United (after that moving deadline)
TRANSFER Balls: A look at a Everton’s Marouane Fellaini’s move to Manchester united or Arsenal:
DAVID MOYES has a week to decide whether to sign Marouane Fellaini. The Everton star has a buyout clause of £22million — but that only stands until July 31. Then Moyes’ old club will be able to name their price and it will undoubtedly go up.
So. He doesn’t have a week. And why will any fee go up? If the player wants to leave and buyers are prepared to take it to transfer deadline day, the price could well drop.
Overlooking how the Press know the contents of Fellaini’s contract, we hark back to old news:
The Mirror added on July 13:
The Belgian’s £23.5million buy-out clause expires on August 14 with the Toffees set to demand more than £30million for him after
Not ask. Demand. To which the answer will be, ‘No thanks. and you can’t make me. Keep your unhappy player.’
On July 15, the Daily Express had more:
Fellaini’s future has been the subject of much conjecture, and he has been linked with a move to Arsenal, even though they are reportedly unwilling to meet his £23m buyout clause
Reports in France suggest that Arsenal and United have been told that if they don’t complete a deal for Fellaini by August 14, then his buyout clause will rise.
On July 22, the Liverpool Post told us:
Arsenal to launch £24m bid for Everton FC star Marouane Fellaini
Liverpool Daily Post Arsenal to launch £24m bid for Everton FC star Marouane Fellaini
On the same days, on MyEvertonNews we read:
Arsenal to finally launch Fellaini bid within the next 24 hour
On July 6, this site said:
Arsenal Make Stunning £22m Bid to Activate Marouane Fellaini Relause Clause: Everton Midfielder Subject Of Club Record BidSo. The buyout clause exists whatever and whenever. Can we all agree on that?

Transfer Balls: Manchester United target Gareth Bale and Andre Villas-Boas head to Barcelona (so they say)
THE Daily Bale – a look at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the news media. We last featured Bale on July 14, when the Sun said Gareth Bale was off to Manchester united for a fee in excess of £75 million. This followed news that any move to Real Madrid this season was dead.
Now read on…
July 20
Marca leads with news that Los Blancos are in the process of raising funds to buy Bale. But there’s no need to bother. The Daily Star has news:
“EXCLUSIVE: Gareth Bale wants to join Manchester United”
Will they get him?
United are ready to offer £60m in an attempt to take him to Old Trafford, and Tottenham last night refused to comment on whether an official bid had been made.
The Daily Mirror says the bid has been made.
We have been told that United have an “unlimited budget” for players.
Of course, new Spurs singing Paulinho has told us Bale is going nowhere. That’s Bale, the star whose worth this summer has been pitched at £100m, £85m, £80m, £70m, and £50m. Indeed, one paper told us that £100m was not enough to buy Bale.
But United have unlimited money, so here’s the bid for, erm, £60m.
Also telling us that Bale was a Spurs player for the season ahead was Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas. He said:
“The chairman said that we are not open to offers, whatever they are, and that the player will stay.”
But then he added:
“In football anything can happen, but these are the guarantees given to me.”
The Express says Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, ” is reported ready to double Bale’s wages to £150,000-a-week in a bid to keep him happy at White Hart Lane”.
And AVB has just told reporters:
“He’s not for sale at any price. No we haven’t had any conversations. It’s not irritating, I think it’s part of when the market opens. It’s normal that there is speculation everywhere.”
Such as this speculation in the Daily Mail:
Villas-Boas refused to comment on speculation linking him with the Barcelona job, instead sending his best wishes to departing coach Tito Vilanova.
No comment is still a comment:
“It’s a very difficult situation and all of my wishes are with Tito. If he has to resign for a situation of illness it’s not the moment to speak about any speculation whatsoever. It’s not even a question, we are speaking about a person’s health.”
So. AVB hasn’t ruled it out. And, as he told us, there are no guarantees in football – anything can happen. AVB is no fool. He never did get Spurs into the Champions’ League. One more failure and his stock will fall.
But AVB is highly rated by Bale who tells the Evening Standard:
“We [Bale and Villas-Boas] have a great relationship. Last season we had a great campaign and obviously we came up short but we had a great working relationship on and off the field.
“We chatted quite a lot about tactics and stuff like that. He definitely got the best out of me last season and hopefully can again.”
Bale and AVB’s careers seem to be linked.
Look out for news telling us Bale and AVB are off to is Barcelona very soon…
Transfer Balls: Chelsea ‘offer’ £80m for Manchester United understudy Wayne Rooney
TRANSFER Balls: A round-up of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney:
Daily Mirror (front page): “Roo: My fury at united”
£250,000 -a-week, Rooney is upset by his employers telling him to work hard and do it for the team. Manager David Moyes says he sees him an important part of the team. But he is not first choice. Robin Van Persie is.
What Moyes said was:
“Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him and I want as many options as possible.”
To say nothing of a dip in RVP’s form, which Moyes didn’t.
