We Are All Hamza al-Khateeb: The Face Of Sadism In Syria

CAN you still be shocked by an image? Can a story still stir emotions when delivered raw? Can Hamza al-Khateeb be the face that makes the world do something about Syria?

These Arab revolutions need a face for the people to rally around. The massses are a collection of ones:

Tunisia: Mohamed Bouazizi (immolation)

Egypt: Khaled Said (murder by police)

The US has been caught on the backfoot. Obama is not alone. Sheikh Nasrallah has stated his support of President Assad. Syrian protesters have been burning pictures of Hezbollah’s leader.

Hamza al-Khateeb was 13 year old when he was snatched by Syrian police on April 29, 2011. One month later the sadists returned him to his family. The reprot is thus:

The child had spent nearly a month in the custody of Syrian security, and when they finally returned his corpse it bore the scars of brutal torture: Lacerations, bruises and burns to his feet, elbows, face and knees, consistent with the use of electric shock devices and of being whipped with cable, both techniques of torture documented by Human Rights Watch as being used in Syrian prisons during the bloody three-month crackdown on protestors.

Egyptian General Did ‘Virginity Checks’ On Female Protesters In Tahrir Square

TO Egypt, where those crazy Generals are labouring under the notion that only virgins can be raped and sexually assaulted by soldiers. Someone should tell Lara Logan, Ken Clarke and Dominique Strauss-Kahn:

A senior Egyptian general admits that “virginity checks” were performed on women arrested at a demonstration this spring, the first such admission after previous denials by military authorities.. “The girls who were detained were not like your daughter or mine,” the general said. “These were girls who had camped out in tents with male protesters in Tahrir Square, and we found in the tents Molotov cocktails and (drugs).”

The general said the virginity checks were done so that the women wouldn’t later claim they had been raped by Egyptian authorities.

“We didn’t want them to say we had sexually assaulted or raped them, so we wanted to prove that they weren’t virgins in the first place,” the general said. “None of them were (virgins).”

The Titanic: 100 Years Of Films And Photos

ONE hundred years ago today, the Titanic Karl left the quayside in Belfast. Who could have foretold that the boat would launch such a welter of films? Lest we forget: Titanic, Raise The Titanic, The Chambermaid on the Titanic, Titanic3D: Ghosts of the Abyss, Danielle Steel’s No Greater Love, Saved from the Titanic, a Nazi propaganda flick called Titanic (the boat is downed by Jews sharks, probably), A Night to Remember, a cartoon called Titanic: The Legend Goes On and the unforgivable Titanic II, in which the boat returns for one last shot at America…

James Brown Makes Excuse Laden Apology For Racist Attack On Ben Douglas

JAMES Brown is the hairdresser who called Ben Douglas a nigger eight times at the Baftas wards. Brown is white. Douglas is black. Doulgas named no names. But he did provide clues, so making the story grow bigger and bigger.

He said the swine “numbers Kate Moss and Lily Allen”. He called the abuser a “leading figure in the fashion world”.

He said that he had been abused while at “a supposedly elegant soirée of educated, liberal individual, not a BNP fundraiser at an inner-city boozer”.

Douglas says Brown called his friend “a nigger’s bitch”.

Sure FIFA Is A Stinking Bed Of Corruption But Where’s The Evidence?

HATS off to Mohamed bin Hammam who has bravely, selfishly, and, dare it go unsaid, honourably, withdrawn from the FIFA presidential race moments before the election. It thus follows that in a field on one, noble Sepp Blatter will be re-elected as the FIFA president.

He will be the head of a grandiose body that promises:

For the Game. For the World.

The world is a place rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity, but also one where many are still deprived of their basic rights. FIFA now has an even greater responsibility to reach out and touch the world, using football as a symbol of hope and integration.

Australian Greens Want Battersea Power Station Shut: Say Yes To Carbon Tax

TO Australia, where the government is promoting its carbon tax in a “Say Yes” campaign. The video features all sorts of people stating why more tax is good – and fossil fuels are bad.

Get a load of that carbon-belching coal-fired power station in the backgrond. It looks not a lot unlike Battersea Power Station, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s stunning London landmark – a heritage site – that stopped producing energy in 1983.

Sharon Shoesmith Makes Fools Of The Sun’s David Cameron And Ed Balls

SHARON Shoesmith was unfairly sacked over the case of Baby P – the child who died at the hand of his mother, Tracey Connelley, her lover Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen. Former Children’s Secretary Ed Balls sacked her on the telly. She lost her £133,000-a-year post as Balls reacted to Opposition goading and a Sun campaign to force her out.

At last now the news media can stick to the facts, avoid sensationalism and move on? The child, Peter Connelley, suffered enough. his name should be left to rest in peace. Well, not a bit of it.

The Evening Standard says Shoesmith is in line for a “£2.5m payout“.

Fury As Daily Mail Compares Real Horrors Of 7/7 To A Video Game

SCARE Story of the Day is Call of Duty 3, a shoot-’em-video game that will send pain and destruction whirling into London like a visting Hen Night party from Middlesborough.

This “ultra-violent computer game” has propmted “Fury” in the Mail because it “recreates 7/7 Tube bomb-style attacks“.

Pretty sick, eh. But, still, if the deaths of 52 people is to be a game, maybe there’s an option for sicko gamers to play the hero and stop the bloodshed?

The game “features explosions and scenes of destruction on the London Tube and at the Houses of Parliament.”

David Charlton Is The Hero Of Strangeways

DAVID Charlton is the star of Strangeways, the TV documentary about the Manchester prison. The governor Richard Vince has a belief:

“It is my belief that with very few exceptions, people have the capacity to change and improve themselves.”

All of them? Even the ones who might be mentally ill, or so stubborn that they refuse to bend?

Of course the camera corrupts what it sees. But whereas the American versions of real-life prison shows focus on the menace and the violence, Strangeways lets the action roll, broadcasting with minimal visual grammar the drab quotidian horror of life at rock bottom.

James Bond Gets Carte Blanche: Throbbing Extracts Of Manhood

JAMES Bond has a new adventure. Thriller writer Jeffery Deaver was apporached by Ian Fleming Publications to write a James Bond novel. (In 2004, Deaver won the Crime Writers’ Association’s Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award for his book Garden of Beasts.) He agreed. He created ‘Carte Blanche‘.

Says Deaver:

“In the world of espionage, giving an agent carte blanche on a mission comes with an enormous amount of trust and constantly tests both personal and professional judgement. Part of the nonstop suspense in the novel is the looming question of what is acceptable in matters of national and international security. Are there lines that even James Bond should not cross?”

Ian Tomlinson: It’s A Crime That Pc Harwood Is The Only Copper In The Dock

WAS Ian Tomlinson murdered? No. But he was unlawfully killed. Pc Simon Hardwood, an officer with the militia-styled Territorial Support Group, hit him with baton and pushed him over.

Tomlinson had his hands in his pockets. He offered neither threat nor reistance.

Harwood used “excessive and unreasonable force”. Was that violence typical of the man and the police?

Before he pushed Tomlinson, Harwood had been twice investigated over his alleged aggressive behaviour.

While working for the Metropolitan Police, Harwood was, allegedly, involved in a road rage incident in the late 1990s.  He had been due to face a misconduct hearing. But the heating never happened. Before it could, Harwood resigned from the force on medical grounds. So. That was the end of his police career? Obviously not.. He rejoined the police, working as a civilian computer worker. He was back in the system. In May 2003, Harwood applied to join Surrey Police as a PC.

Bahrain Elected Now Sits On UN Human Rights Panel: Syria Narrowly Misses Out

HURRAH for the United Nations. Having kicked Libya off the Human Rights panel (yep, it got in), the UN fielded applications for countries who wanted to sit in judgement. Syria applied. Others got in:

This year’s election for the U.N. Human Rights Council has, once again, produced a body that has fewer “free” countries – 21 of a total of 47 – and has more than one-third of the seats held by members of the Islamic bloc.

Among the 15 countries to win seats on the Geneva-based HRC on Friday was Congo, which joins 11 other countries ranked “not free” by the democracy advocacy group, Freedom House, based on an annual assessment of political freedoms and civil liberties…

Imogen Thomas Interview: Ryan Giggs Cost Her £100,000 And Her Hair

RYAN Giggs. Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs Ryan Giggs. Nice to be able to actually say his name out loud isn’t it? Thanks for falling on the sword John Hemming MP.

Anyway, all this Ryan Giggs business has been a unravelling farce which no-one can fully agree on.

Either way, there was a situation when many were saying his name over and over, while the press was gagged. The press didn’t like it and were always going to retaliate, which they’ll do in spades to the footballer who has caused his own Streisand Effect.
