No Camping At Obama’s Inauguration

THE rules are that there should be no overnight campaign at Obama’s inauguration:

Federal officials said yesterday that no one will be allowed to camp overnight on the Mall before the presidential inauguration and that spectators will be barred from staking out spots along the parade route until 7 a.m.

Expect a (crowd) surge…

Rod Blagojevich And Obama’s Other Shoe

ROGER L Simon waits for the other Blagogate shoes to drop:

On the other hand, we are all Chicago.  And beyond that is the deeper issue of what sorts of personalities are attracted to our politics.  And then there’s the role of the media in all this, obviously ideologically biased in their coverage of politicians.  The Chicago Trib, which is in the middle of this case, is to be praised for keeping their collective mouths shut, especially since that paper, as we all know, is in deep jeopardy.

But the media at large is a different matter.  Having been so casual in the investigation of Obama’s background during the campaign, they must be holding their collective breaths, not mouths, this time.  Shoes are starting to drop before the inauguration.  What if a lot more drop.  What a disgrace to our media.  How shameful.  They deserve to go out of business.

Does corruption make things work better – we all understand each other, right?

Barack Obama Strangled In Rome

BARACK Obama is being stangled in Rome. It’s the Barack Obama Death cult, Italian chapter.

Ann Althouse Has Questions For Obama On Blagojevich

ANN Althouse has, via Politico, some questions for Obama on the Blagojevich scandal:

1 – “Did you communicate directly or indirectly with Blagojevich about picking your replacement in the U.S. Senate?”….

2 – “Why didn’t you or someone on your team correct your close adviser David Axelrod when he said you had spoken to Blagojevich about picking your replacement?”…

3. “When did you learn the investigation involved Blagojevich’s alleged efforts to ‘sell’ your Senate seat, or of the governor’s impending arrest?”…

4 – “Did you or anyone close to you contact the FBI or U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald about Blagojevich’s alleged efforts to sell your Senate seat to the highest bidder?”…

5 – “Did federal investigators interview you or anyone close to you in the investigation?”…

6 – “When did you and Blagojevich last speak and about what?”…

7 – “Do you regret supporting Blagojevich?”…

This one has legs…

Barack Obama Sends Mixed Smoke Signals

DOES Barack Obama smoke? Top of the Ticket transcribes that question and Obama’s answer:

MR. BROKAW: Finally, Mr. President-elect, the White House is a no-smoking zone, and when you were asked about this recently by Barbara Walters, I read it very carefully, you ducked.

Have you stopped smoking?

PRES.-ELECT OBAMA: You know, I have, but what I said was that, you know, there are times where I’ve fallen off the wagon. Well…

MR. BROKAW: Well, wait a minute.

PRES.-ELECT OBAMA: …what can I tell…

MR. BROKAW: Then that means you haven’t stopped.

PRES.-ELECT OBAMA: Well, the–fair enough. What I would say is, is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier, and I think that you will not see any violations of these rules in the White House.

Obama needs a course in plain speaking and the use of words of more than one syllable – “HOPE”; “CHANGE”; YES WE CAN.”

Do you smoke? Yes. Or. No?

He needs to spend time with Gordon…

End Uemployment Obama: Declare More Wars

JOHNATHAN Pearce notices how William Rees-Mogg is rewriting history. Note to Obama: unemployment falls in times of global conflict. Whisper it: does everyone need a job, much less want one? Some people are better at working than others – more productive; more efficient; more willing – so let them work.

Rees-Mogg “makes this statement in his generally admiring writeup on Roosevelt that is surely downright wrong. Not just a teeny-weenie bit wrong, but disastrously so for this whole argument:

In March 1933, when Franklin Roosevelt was inaugurated as president, he had to face the Slump. Unemployment was by then running at about 30 per cent. Roosevelt introduced the New Deal, based on an extensive programme of raising employment through public works. Unemployment did actually fall to about 5 per cent by the time of Roosevelt’s second election victory in 1936. There continued to be stumbles along the way, particularly in 1937.

“Well according to official US statistics referred to here, unemployment certainly did not fall anything like as low as that during FDR’s 1930s period in the White House, and then only dropped significantly once the Second World War started.”

And kept falling…

It’s 3am And Barack Obama Is Call Screening

RING! Ring! It’s 3am and the phone is ringing in the offices of Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.

India is on the phone. India’s foreign minister is on line one. He is most unhappy. Islamabad puts the airforce on high alert.

Anorak wonders if call screening has yet arrived in Pakistan? Call screening may save the world from nuclear annihilation. You see that the call is from the angry man so you don’t pick up. The caller lets off some steam on your answer phone and goes to bed. He tells his wife that he gave the other guy what for and he sleeps well. And the other guy has a fun thing to play his guys. Everyone wins.

If Stalin had had call screening, he could have pretended he knew nothing of a pact with Germany and not left his country open to attack. It’s 3am already, Joe. Don’t pick up the phone.

In other calling news President-elect Barack Obama called Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen on her cellphone Wednesday to congratulate her on her re-election. She hung up on him.

The Rubber Barack Obama Worsens Before It Improves

BARACK Obama is not for bouncing from one place to another.

Get a load of this insight:

“Obama Warns Economy to Worsen Before It Improves”-

Brilliant. Lower expectations. Reach for the bottom and then you can only go up. But if you do have some spare cash:

Some of the text on the package came from suggestions by readers of John’s blog, and no one is spared a little ribbing: Whether your favorite candidate is “a pantsuit stuffed with experience,” full of silly hopes, wishes and changes or “armed to the dentures with experience,” you’ll want to get all three. I once had a set of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky figures. They came with a cigar and had voiceboxes that shouted things like “I love pizza!” They were made to plug into my car’s cigarette lighter and hang out on the dashboard. I eventually sold them on eBay. If you want these figures by John Kricfalusi, pre-order them through his blog post here.

Obama Balls: Jennifer Aniston’s Perspective

JENNIFER Aniston tells the globally distributed newspapers USA Today that she, er, wants to be left alone. It’s what Obama would want:

Seriously, it’s enough. It’s like we’re appealing to the lowest … And this is at a time when we should be so inspired and excited with what’s happening with the president. It’s a time to be positive and join together. We’re just trying to entertain you, man. Don’t shoot the messenger –

Record Numbers At The Barack Obama Inaugural Hajj

BARACK Obama’s inauguration looms and they’re expecting record numbers for the Hajj.

Saudi Arabia is preparing for a record turnout at the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

More than 100,000 security guards have been deployed to cope with the three million people expected in the city of Mecca, when the Islamic pilgrimage gets under way on Saturday.

As J-Walk says: “Coincidentally, that’s the same number of people expected for the Obama inauguration.”

Obama Disses Dave Cameron

MARBURY reads the New Statesman claim that “following his brief meeting with David Cameron in July, Obama exclaimed, ‘What a lightweight!'”

I’m sceptical. It just doesn’t sound very Obama-ish. Whatever he thinks, he doesn’t make a habit of deriding individuals in this manner, even fierce opponents (in fact I can’t think of a single example right now). The story’s author refers vaguely to “diplomatic sources”. Even if Obama was going to insult the Tory leader, it would be very out of character for him to do so in front of officials that weren’t people he knew and trusted. And as we know, Obama’s aides aren’t leakers. Well, we’ll see. But this may not enhance the already less-than-stellar reputation.

They disappear leakers, don’t they…

Obama’s Loaded In A Buyer’s Market

ROBERT D Kaplan realises that Barack Obama can only profit from the bottom-out market:

…the real reason that Obama and Clinton might enjoy success is something that goes barely mentioned in the media. Obama and Clinton are buying into a bottomed-out market vis-à-vis America’s position in the world. It is as if they will be buying stock after the market has crashed, and just at the point when a number of factors are already set in motion for a recovery. For President George W. Bush did not just damage America’s position in the world, he has also, over the past two years, quietly repositioned himself as a realist in foreign policy, and that, coupled with a bold new strategy in Iraq, known as the “surge,” has poised America for a diplomatic rebound, which the next administration will get the credit for carrying out.

George Bush – you’ll miss him when he’s gone.
