NOW we are moved on from racial politics, each of us – Muslim fundamentalist, white supremacist, Black Shiite, Panther, Tutsi, Boar and so on – living in a post-racial society, the media can say whatever it likes about Barack Obama and we will know the reporters and nodding heads are not exploiting his blackness, nor his non-blackness but just sticking to the essence of the man, whatever that may be.
The Sun brings news of “Black Dr Who”, and we know that it is not referring to Colin Salmon’s skin tones but his mood, which is dark and foreboding, like Othello and his talking metal dog made accessible for a teenaged audience.

Stock Exchange Goes Long On Obamas And Short On Clintons

THIS morning the FTSE experience its biggest ever tenth-of-a-second fall. Fact!
In the US, at 3:24 and 12.24 seconds yesterday, the Dow Jones was lower in real terms than it had ever been at that point in trading in its history on November 5th.
It’s is a day that will linger long in the memory.

Spencer Ackerman asks, “Remember in 2003 and 2004, when there was all this talk about how the Democrats were in danger of no longer being a national party?” I do remember that. I also remember how Democrats had to get religion if they ever wanted to be competitive again. I also remember how they had to appeal to the white heartland by nominating candidates more culturally recognizable to rural voters. Instead, they went in the opposite direction, running a candidate who was recognizable to the majority coalition Democrats hoped to have in 10 years.

BBC Wins With Obama
OBAMA wins. The BBC wins.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the result is historic. As for the BBC’s coverage, well thanks for your comments. Iain Dale was also unimpressed, and as evidence of the Beeb’s standing at home and abroad, here’s an American perspective:
The real fun network of the night was BBC America, which picked up the BBC feed being aired back in England. The coverage played like a good-natured “Idiot’s Guide to the American Election,” with references to such states as “North Hampshire.”
And there are idiots everywhere…

There are 175 BBC staff in America. But they did their bit and now Obama is President.
On BBC Breakfast, Sian Williams is talking to Bill Turnbull via a satellite link up. Most often they are sat next to each other on a beige sofa in West London.

Sinister E-Voting Machine Failure
THEY are queuing to vote. The queue goes on for hours. Why:
Tuesday could be a long day for election officials in states relying on electronic-voting machines to record votes in the U.S. presidential election, if early reports of malfunctions are any indication.
Problems with e-voting machines were reported early on Election Day in several U.S. states, including Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia, which are identified as battleground states where the outcome of the vote could tip the presidential race in favor of either Democratic Sen. Barack Obama or Republican Sen. John McCain.
According to voter reports on the ground and from watchdog organizations, there were problems with getting e-voting machines up and running in these key states and others, and in some cases the machines would crash during the voting process and had to be rebooted.
