In “Clean Hands and a Pure Heart” David Gelernter writes in the Weekly Standard:
Granting the importance of the topic, the difference in moral stature between presidential candidates has rarely been as enormous as it is today–not (or not only) because Obama’s is so small but because McCain’s is so large.
There is no single English word for McCain the hero, the moral entity. But in Hebrew he would be called a tsaddik–a man of such nobility and moral substance that he approaches holiness.

ASHLEY Todd, she of the Obama stigmata, rings a bell:
The minute I saw that photo of the young McCain volunteer who is supposed to have had a letter “B” carved in her face by a black assailant, I thought of Anne Tyler’s early novel “A Slipping-Down Life”. It’s about a teenage girl who’s so infatuated with the leader of a local rock band that she carves his name in her forehead; unfortunately, she forgets that using a mirror to do the deed creates certain basic complications.

But then Powell raised the ante. Citing unnamed Republican party leaders (not McCain), he said these leaders made allegations to him that Obama was a Muslim and therefore a “terrorist”. Really? I would like to hear the names of those “leaders.”
